went to the wreckers today

tested a gearbox in a 1200 sedan

it was a 5-speed

ask the guy "how much for the gearbox in the 1200"

his reply, $175

he thought it was a 4-speed, and i wasn't gonna tell him otherwise

so yeah the gearbox is now in my shed and my wallet is only $175 lighter

I'll give ya $200 for it!

it was really funny, he went to check the car i got it out of cause he remembered one 1200 had a dud gearbox and they give a waranty so he didnt want me to take the crap one, it was the other 1200, on the way back he pointed to a 120y and said "that one has a really good box in it", i said "oh yeah, its not a 5-speed is it?", he says laughing "nah, you wouldn't get one of them for that price"

gee it was hard not to laugh back at it

thats it im moving to NZ, nah, here the box is worth at least 600 and upto 1000 so its a great find!!

Being a CA18..and a A series automatic owner.. I guess I'm not as excited as you. But for the price, good buying. I've not had many good experiences with people who work at wreckers, so I'm pretty happy for the "customer's team". So were you shopping for a 5 speed? Or was it a case of "just browsing"?

Yep that box was my old 1200 I rounded the gears on excessive burnouts in 1 and second...
