Geoff,
I've did the same swap here in the States into a 69 Midget about 6 years ago - currently have my drivetrain for sale, as car met it's untimely demise earlier in year. I have a A14 / 5 speed combo from 1980 Datsun that I used in my install. I hope that you will resist cutting the front crossmember when undertaking the install! I trimmed out & reformed my trans mount & heater box plenum to clear back of bellhousing - used single groove crank pulley to clear front crossmember. Radiator was a recored vertical flow early Midget unit, with a high-flow 3-row core. Ran twin SU's on fabbed intake for carburation while I was working on sourcing a twin side-draft Weber intake for fuel injection install. Also had to fab custom header. Used remote oil filter adaptor to relocate filter to right front radiator support. Also, if you haven't noticed already, the Midget diff flange & Datsun rear driveshaft flange bolt right up!
Good luck with the install - it makes for a nice cruiser! If you have specific questions that I can help with, email me at
determined2win@hotmail.com. There are a few cars running around in area with this swap...
