I am interested to know which is the best spring rate to use in the front of a standard weight 1200 coupe to be used 50/50 road & track work?

I got myself some 240pound springs but they appear too strong, although motor and gearbox are out at the moment.

Thanks,
Matt

What engine are you running? The 240's would be good with an a12-A15 etc.

A bit soft for L or CA etc which should be more like 350 lb.

I am running an A15, but I have found that without the engine in the strut is sitting at full extension and I am worried that the engine is not heavy enough to compress the spring more than about one inch, and that with any body roll or bumps the wheel will end up off the ground!

one way to find out!

if i jack my car up then let it down it sits very high still, you need to take it for a drive and let it settle, its not that hard to change springs later

1200RC Approximately how much "droop" would you say there is when you jack a wheel off the ground?

Ive got 250pound springs on stanza struts with adjustable platforms and theyre perfect, infact some people have told me their slightly too soft but i like them. go for adjustable platforms their easy to get done (just weld threaded tube onto struts and get matching threaded platforms). well worth the efffort!Quote:

3 wheels = less drag those vw golfs always have one of their rear wheels off the ground going arround corners.

John Taylor from Pedders at Penrith has raced 1200's for years and runs 200lb springs with adjustable Stanza struts. Thats even softer still!! But he said that suits most racetracks really well.

I'm with Errol. 240 is a good number for a little light motor.
Most off the shelf adj shocks need re-valving to run much over 250lb's

If you intend to run slicks on the circuit you'll have to go stiffer methinks...

240's should be fine Matt, I have 400's in the front of my race car, but had 210's in my rallycar from memory, but it was a wee while ago.
