How good are aftermarket front guards?

Hi guys,

I'm looking at buying some new front guards for my ute and was wondering about the quality of these guards and if there are any fitement issues? We have been getting a bit of rain lately (as the Vic people would know!) and upon removing the kick panels, I can see a gap between the guard and the pillar where the door bolts on (has a little foam sea running from top to bottom) and is letting the water in. The front guards are not in the best shape anyway, so I'm thinking it would be a cheaper option to buy 2 new ones rather than pay to get them all properyl done by a panel beater. So, can anyone tell me if the aftermarket ones are any good? Is the little ridge around the wheel arch still there and does it look natural?

Thanks for the help.

Leigh

yes, they're alright. But they don't come with that seal you're talking about. Only fitting problem I've ever had was the mounting tab that bolts up just at the base of the A pillar. They just need to be bent out a little straighter to reach - no big deal. Everything else lined up fine.

Awesome. Thanks guys.

So basically, you shouldn't be able to tell if the guards are aftermarket jobs?

Thanks again.

Yeah, they are ok. I found that I needed to elongate the hole on the bottom of the guard, to get the guard to sit closer to the body, to keep inline with the door. But everything else about them is beautiful. Sometimes they are rippley along the edge that bolts along the top section, but that can be fixed with a wooden mallet.

Even if you bought them just for rust repair sections, they are still good value.

I'd say go ahead and use them.

May be a little late reply......... although the guys at Wetherill Park Panels have decent ones there, cheap as well..... i have spoken to quiet a few people that have used them and apperently they are pretty good fit although..... if you were building a show car i would take the time and search wreckers and the trading post to get a pair of originals, they do fit a hell of a lot better all round

Cheers
