Is anyone running one of those programmable high energy ignition kits from Jaycar on their A12?

I've got one lying around that a friend isn't using. It's the type where you lock your dissy advance plate fully retarted or fully advanced and then program in the ignition curve so that the programmable igntion advances or retards the ignition along with your RPM according to your settings.

If anyone is running one of these can they tell me what advance curve they've got plugged in?

Or - can someone tell me what the standard A12 GX igntion advance curve is ? i.e. total advance, initial advance, approximate curve (i.e. a few points of interest along the way from start to full advance)?

I've heard about these, but don't know anyone using one yet. I'd be interested in the results. how is it programmed - just with some 'pots' or does it have a more sophisticated control system?

A good speed shop or anyone advertising to recurve dissy's should be able to run yours up and give you a graph of ignition advance vs engine speed, if that's what you want to use as a starting point. otherwise just tune it on a dyno as you would if you'd installed an aftermarket ECU. Or trial and error on the road starting conservative and edging up.

Just as a 'rule of thumb', you probably want about 32 degrees all in(plus or minus a few degrees depending on the engine) by around 3000-3500rpm. Depending on your CR and fuel you may not be able to run that much total advance.

Well it has a remote keypad which links by a big ribbon cable back to the HEI box (which is available seperately from Jaycar as a points triggered High energy ignition kit). The pad and controller / computer ignition stuff tells the HEI box what to do and when - hence the locked advance plate.

You can alternatively just leave your advance plate doing it's thing and have the points etc still do all the timing but it will no longer handle the load it will only act as a switch in this setup so that you get accurate powerful sparks all the time (cos the HEI box does this externally and independantly of dwell angle issues etc.

The benefit of the programmable stuff is that you can have an exact curve (counteracting old weights and springs that may have slacked off and be advancing incorrectly) plus you can program in a few different advance curves which allows you to for example easily switch between low octane or high octane fuel curves.

I just need a basic few points from the standard curve from someone's factory manual or something so that I have a starting point for the setup.
