I've just completed assembly of a car I put together from parts. I haven't had it on the road yet and I'm a little confused by the weight of the clutch pedal. I'm used to a car with hydraulic clutch operation rather than cable and was wondering whether these clutches are just heavy or whether mine's sticking or something.
Does anyone have any general sort of comparison or thoughts about the weight of the clutch pedal? Or does anyone have any ideas for making it lighter to use (service or modification).??

I wouldn't describe these clutches as heavy. Did you check the cable for smooth operation before you hooked it to the pedal and g/box? Could the pivot point on the Spitfire pedal be different than the Datsun thus decreasing the leverage force you apply via the pedal?

It is entirely possible that it is a leverage problem. There was a mount for the master clutch cylinder and that has been welded up to accept the cable and it's routed straight down to the original pedal.
Maybe I could weld on an extra arm so that the cable is pulled at a different rate. I doubt though that I could change the lever set up to help as the pedal travel is already very long and I suspect that if I modify it to be easier I would be trying to get it to perform the same WORK over a longer TIME to provide an easier pedal movement.
I guess the cable could be binding against its outer shell.
