I have a 91 Toyota Tarago..and before any of you want to pay out on me I have 4 kids under the age of 7...and cant afford anything else
So heres how it goes. the engine is the 2.4 l MPEFI and runs Ok till about 3000rpm but then loses all power and will hardly scale a hill. It was working alright till this morning and then all of the sudden started doing this today
I have changed the fuel filter in the last 3 weeks...and dont have a engine management warning light...do you think I got a bad batch of fuel..(we filled with optimax today and still no difference 98RON)
I really dont want to take it anywhere as Id rather spend the money on the 1200 coupe race car....
Any suggestions???

yeah we do...and there was something rattling around in the cat for a couple of months before this happened. it happened after a hard brake when I missed a corner, so I think something inside the cat dislodged and then blocked it...I'll disconnect the exhaust to see if its that.

Hey, thanks Bob for the tip you were spot on .... the cat converter had collapsed and was blocking the exhaust..I hate spending money on road cars

Bob that was some awesome troubleshooting ... right on the first try!

Maybe that's why Nicholas' A-12 Bakkie only goes 94mph ...

Not likely, Craig car lost all power at 3000 rpm and I asume under any load (uphill). Nicholas dosn't state any loss power in lower gears and if the exhaust is resticted lucky to get to 35mph
I work at a dealership (not Toyota) and see this now and then, classic complaint for this condition. could of been many other things but this would be my first thing I would check
