well i picked up a twin turbo setup and currently have the motor out of the road car for the conversion, unfortunately the inlet and exhaust manifolds interfere on the a-15 i had in the car as the a-15 intake manifold is lager

ive decided that i will put the a-12 i got with the turbos into the car for now,

and take the opurtunity to fit the injection and have an exhaust manifold made up for the turbos to fit the a-15

i need to get me a computer and afm for the injection, ive been quoted 350 for some toyota gear that should do the job, fuel only but talking to another mechanic it would be ideal to get the dizzy modified to have "boost retard" (not sure hat this costs)
, so that i dont have to retard the timing the conventional way and loose power off boost, or alternatively go and and spend a shiet load on a computer that does fuel and ignition

so yeah, she will be tomking with a twin turbo a-12 next week but sometime in the future it should be absolutly flying with a twin turbo injected a-15

hehe sounds good doesnt it

oh, the turbo setup has the turbos running through an intercooler to the boxed carby

i would like to run 6 psi normally and ahave a switch to put it up to 10psi on command

Sounds awesome! Why not try the Toyota fuel computer, and see how it goes? With the intercooler it shouldn't be too big of a problem with the timing retard.

cheers bud, the main thing holding back injection is really getting another exhaust manifold made up, can you explain how the intercooler helps with timing retard problem?

The intercooler will be a safe guard against detonation, due to decreased inlet air temperatures. Without one you will need to retard the timing to avoid the engine detonating due to excessive combustion temperatures.

from what i was told you need to retard the timing so the mixture isnt ignited when the piston is still travelling upward, but doing this means at low revs the mixture will be ignited when the piston is traveling downward

is this correct and if so is it really a big deal or not (i.e. is it gonna run like shiet off boost, or just not aswell as it would without retarding timing)

and at the end of the day should i retard timing? and if so how do i figure out how much?

i pressume somethings already been done with the a-12 that had turbos previously but im worried about when i put turbos on my a-15

Yes, without an intercooler the timing wants to be retarded under boost. With it, you might be able to get away with a slight timing adjustment.

I recently read that w/o intercooler, 6-10 lbs boost was about, even with racing fuel.

Compression ratio also has alot to do with detonation aswell as fuel quality

oh crap, now youre making it worse

um, well, yeah

obviously there is no straight answer, at first it will be standard a-15 comp ratio and 98 octance synergy fuel if that helps

anyway gotta head off to class, catch yas, thanks for ya help too

Low boost and an intercooler should be fine.

I would retard the timing to start with and then get the car to a dyno, and slowly advance the timing so that you know for sure its not detonating.

Nothing like peace of mind
