i hate manual tunnels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how does anyone change the gearbox in a manual tunnel????????????????

i have beaten the shiet outta my tunnel and its still a prick to move boxes in there, there is a hole where the clutch lever has worn right through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

basically i have a gut full of this and am reshelling to an auto tunnel car asap!!!!!!!

i pulled the clutch and fly off and the bloody spigot bush has started breaking up where it was not inserted properly, it was hanging out slighlty

how do you get the barstard out????????

yes im pissed off!!!!!

the car fell off the car stands earlier too, the stand squashed my muffler a bit

the heater outlet at the back of the block has been dinting the firewall when getting motor in and out, the bloody outlet has been squashed now too

i still hope to finish this weekend but im getting so sick of it now, i took the motor out cause i couldnt get the box on, so now the motor is sitting in front of the car again, its so frustrating going backwards taking everything out

With my gearbox, I did the hammering, then I also did the loosening of the engine mounts and jacking up th eengine from the front to tilt it back. In the end I put the engine crane on it again, so I could move it a little foreward and angle it down...
Was a real $lut to get out...
Even bigger to put back in...
Especially when the idiots who isntalled your exhaust put it all in as one with no flange..

Yeah, lobster sums up how I've done it ... it's tricky but do-able. I did not use a hammer on the body. Two things:

1. lower back of engine
2. When putting tranny back in, use a real clutch alignment tool

I've done this laying on my back (no transmission jack).

Yeh! to add to that
when doing my sons 2000 escort we go
1 jack car up on xmember
2 use stands under car body
3 remove 4 xmember bolts
4 refit with 100 ml (4") longer xmember bolts
5 remove g'box mt ( another jack is handy here)
6 release rad & heater hoses & other wiring & pipes that may be strained when lowering engine
7 lower & remove jack
8 c/- gbox etc then refit & reverse the above

I have used this method several times and it makes life a little easer

Oh yeah rip out the spline centre thingy from your old gearbox and use that as an aligning tool...

Hmmm that is using technical jargon, some of your might not understand it....

the worse box i had to do was in my s1 rx7, i only had it up on a pair of small ramps, the box in those things way heaps, well for a manual they do, and to top it all off i had a set of twin primaries running right under the box so it wasnt a simple task to get in and out, cant wait to do the datto one, its so small:D.
