hey guys how much of a mission is it to turbo charge a 1200? would you have to go to fuel injection or could you use a carb? ive seen pics in the photo album of boxes with the carb inside it, and others with the carb bolted to the turbo.

what i'm basicly after is to make 100hp+ on the wheels, ive done the usual mods all ready, but i dont want to put in a bigger engine!! i would like to make big power with a small engine .

all comments and segestions would be great, could some one also tell me the cost of fitting a turbo.

many thanks
nicholas

there have been some healthy discussions about both draw though and blow though set ups here. A search on those phrases should turn up some interesting reading!

There are advantages & advocates for buth the suck & blow methods, but the blow through method seems to have problems with sealing up the box with throttle & choke linkages ever ready to provide a source for leakage. Don't forget that the mechanical fuel pump [if used] will need to be in a pressurised box too.

Suck through is simpler & seems to work well enough to be the most popular method. If you run cast pistons & stock compression, i would suggest that 5psi is a good max boost figure if you want the engine to live.
Dont forget to learn about boost retard on the distributor, particularly if you are going to run higher boost pressures.

Personally, i like positive displacement blowers as they fatten up the torque figures right from idle.

Good luck
Chris

What have you got against a bigger engine?

What are you calling a bigger engine anyway, are you saying you want to stay with an A12 or do you already have an A14/15?

it's personel, i have had many people tell me to put in a 1400, you let know which sounds better a 1400 engine making 100hp or a 1200 making 100hp?
let me know what you think

To me a NA 1400 making 100hp is more impressive than a turbo 1200 making the same power

Each to their own though
