the question is, do i go for two 12" or one 15" subbie
i have heard both setups, they give diffrent charachteristics, but im not really sure which i prefer
what do you guys reckon?

and under the same heading... i reckon that 6x9 speakers are designed for use without a sub, and 6 inch splits or multi-ways are best for when using a subbie aswell i have opions/reasons on both posts but i thought i'd wait and see what others say first oh i also got a neon that flashes with the music the other day, i reckon the reaction they get is just halerious, i got a red one that i put on my parcel shelf, im kinda too scared to use it though cause id hate a cop to pull me over for somehting stupid like a neon then discover my turbos under the bonnet

two 10" subs will give u a sharp stabbing bass... where as 1 15" will give u that sorta vibrating bass that you get out of rnb music and the like....
just depends what sort of music you like i suppose
personally i think subs arent necessary and that 6" splits up front and 6 X 9's or 7 X 10's give the best all round sound....
but each to their own....

actually that is a good point ange, my mate has a 15" and yeah it sounds great with rnb, but i dont listen to much of that, i go for the techno so i think two 12" will be better, my mate who had two 12" listen to techno mainly and yeah it sounded better for techno but not having a sub at all.... not too sure bout that, its not just cause you cant find a place to put your subbie in your cabin is it what music do you listen to though..

Mate ive got two fat 10" subs in a custom parcel tray in my 1000 sedan with quality alpine 6 1/2" splits in the front with some tweeters in the back corners for filler attatched to a pioneer head unit(soon to be upgraded to an alpine mp3 deck) all running off 2 alpine amps mounted in the boot. I would recommend this set up if you want to get serious, as its hard to fault in a small car like a datto. 15inch subs limit the type of music you can play, 10's can be calibrated to suit if you have a good deck and decent subs but 15's cant keep up with a fast beat... period, and you will get the best sound quality by running round shaped speakers, 6x9's are for people who dont care overly and are not prepared to shell out for amps. thats my take. -Cal- it dont go real fast but it sounds good

hehe nah my ute cabin is completely empty at the moment... stereo is the last thing ill worry about.... although ill probably just go with a good set of 6 inch splits and and amp... that'll be heaps for me in that small cabin.... i put some in a mates hilux and that sounded good...
at the moment ive just got 6x9's running off an amp in the rear and 6ich 3ways running off the head unit in the front of my n13 SSS... and although the front doesnt keep up with the rear.. it still sound good enough for me.... but i think it has a lot to do with the parcel shelf as ive made a 30mm thich mdf shelf which gives out good bass.....
when i had my r31 skyline i had the same 3 way 6inch's in the front and 7 X 10's in the rear... again with 30mm parcel shelf.... later i got a 10inch sub boxed in the boot and ran that off the amp and the 7 x 10's off the head unit (2 ch amp) and it sounded better without the sub.. probably cos the 7x10's werent amped...
sorry bout the long post... but thats my experience
i prefer clear crisp sound and bass rather than huge decibels

Quote: i prefer clear crisp sound and bass rather than huge decibels Yes ..I'll admit it..I'll be 31 soon, and all, thats right, every one of my friends who had subs in the cars through their teens and early twenties don't run any audio systems in their cars anymore, and they all are partially deaf. A couple of them could be considered deaf.. Don't run a Subwoofer while driving the car.. You'll be a deaf "old man" before you know it. If you don't take my advice, I'll come around your house in 10 years and tell you that I told you so. Chris

if you have decent speakers front and back....subs aren't really neccessseray...depends wat you like...i eventually will go twins 12s or 10s as i listin 2 more emo/nu scool and a big 15 is too slow and cant catch up with itself....i have 2 way fusions front and back 6.5s and 6 be 9s....as i plan 2 get tha subs later down tha track but i don't really like 3 way speakers...or especially 4...destroys tha sound....and well neons dont mind the ones in the interior but so you cant see them...under tha dash/ seats so you can just see tha glow is how i like it...

In 10 years time, my mates might go deaf enough that I'll have to learn sign language. So I can "I told you so" in sign language. But seriously, having a loud stereo has been cool and "loud" for more than 10 years. There's loads of people who regret it. I guess it's a fun way to go deaf
