bp motor info
Guest_
the bp turbo from the familia will not mount up to the mx5 rwd gearbox, however, i am attempting to research if the bp crank and internals will bolt into the bp mx5 1.8 block... i think the crank fouls in the bearings, but the rods and pistons fit, and so do the manifolds

personally, i like the 4age, to rev to 9000rpm... mmm nice and smooth.

the bp is a good motor but not in a datto. smooth and tourqey. i like its power dielivery better than the ca18..(poorly splet personal opinion, no flaming please).

i did like the 4age, but the n/a is too gutless and the s/c too heavy, then the 20valve is too expensive, but could be an option i guess

in zoom, some guy put the 20 valve head on the s/c version.... naturally he blew the motor after 2 years of thrasing but what a thrashing it would have been.

i like the 20vale cause i like to rev, not short change to stay on the touque wave.

Best ride vas in a honda integra type r... 9000 rpm changes are the best... ohh the screaming that motor makes is fantastic, even if it only does 14 sec 1/4 miles.

yeah i heard of using 20v head on sc block and bolting up a turbo, but i mentioned it to toyomods and he says, at least to do that u would need to change pistons to accomodate extra valve, so even that is gonna end up pretty bloody pricey

i think the bp motor would be awesome, but in a gtr familia, as its an awesome car too

Ive been told by a profesional engine builder that the 16v head is better than the 20v coz overall you can get larger inlet and exhorst and the 20v is more expencive.

Ask me nicely and I can go out into my shed and take some photos and dimensions of a BP Turbo crank if you want. ;). I just sold my TX3 4WD after 5 years and found engine to be fairly strong to about 15psi and after that you get bent-rod-crontitus, hence why I have most of an engine sitting in my shed and the block(plus a blow gearbox) sitting at my parents farm. Ive got pistons, rods etc ready if you want some photos taken, just bear with me as Im a pretty busy fellow(part time Uni + full time work).

The head design of the BP Turbo is a bit of a mystery as well, Mazda has 4 flow restrictors in one of the intake ports on each cyclinder. Ive heard these are meant to aid in swirling the air into the chambers, also I hear it was to prevent to much low down torque as the Mazda 4WD boxes are made from glass. Defiently stick with a NA BP head if you get the chance.

Fingers crossed my new Mitsu wont have any problems that the TX3 did ;).

Unlike the Mazda F2 Turbo that thing produces heaps of torque ! I would love one of those engines in a datto :)

yeah trannys are made of balsa wood when tourque is added and the slave cylinders rupture when you put a six puck paddle shift clutch into them on a lightened flywheel
thats why it would be good to bolt it all into a bp 1.8 na mx5 block and hook it up to thier non glass rwd gear box. deffinate possibility.

The bp has a reputation for strength in a hard enviornment, its the gboxes that always let them down.
