We call em, an "Air Filter" or air filter assembly. Air cleaner [assembly] is another term.
The bit that strains out the dirt is the air filter "element"
I'l ask about.

do you know anyone who is a fabricator, because ol cheap skate me got an oval shaped air cleaner element from finer filter, which was about 100 mm tall, then got a friend who works in the model shop at a leading white goods manufacturer(alright, fridges & washers),to make be a base & a top to suit.this gives enough clearance to use the ram tubes,& looks pretty cool, actually.just use 8mm threaded bar on the two inner bolt holes of the su's to mount the cover.damn, looks like i'll have to fire up the digi camera & takes some photos.

I recently made an airbox for my twin weber L20b using the airbox and filter out of a 280zx,it sits in the nose of the zx in front of the radiator. You will need to cut the back off it and make a template for it that bolts onto your carbs, also a bracket to support some of it's weight...quite simple really
