How are we all in datsun land?? I have a question; how hard is it to transplant an L-series motor into a 1200? The only reason i ask is because, a mate of mine(who shall remain nameless) who incidently owns a 1600 just re-built an L-20 with the block boreded out 60thou, volvo pistons,Hyper-form bearing kits,Stage 4 cam, ported & polished head, twin45mm dellorto's, lightened flywheel etc etc, the things worked to the teeth,we got the thing running this arvo and does the thing GO. Fishtails every where, tyre frying, and i got to thinking that, that particular engine would go very well in a 1200. Anyway how much mods are needed to to make it fit???? i'd love to hear from anyone who has done or even attempted it

I have seen a few l series into 1200 conversions the L18 sits in there nicley. Steven Brydie has fitted one into his racer he used to have a modified A15. he told me if he realized how easy and cheap teh conversion was he would have done it years ago. Im not really sure on the L20 its a fair whack taller than the L16 and L18 im still pretty confident it will fit. The l series engine go really well even with basic mods carbies extractors and cam.
You will have to fit a Lseries box (hydraulic clutch) modify the crossmebr fit a better diff and biger brakes. Basically the same as any power up conversion.
Cheers Andrew

speak to barry at datsport in adelaide(08 8186 2100 http://www.datsport.com), he has done many l-series conversions into to 1200's, last time I was up there, there was the neatest looking 1200 ute I have ever seen been fitted with a tricked up l-16.. I must say barry really knows his stuff and is a really helpful person. I have never met someone in the datsun business that doesnt try and sell his products to you, he just gives you unbiased help and opinions.

Yeah well i figured the sump would have to be changed, but what about the engine crossmember? is there anyone that makes and sells or do i have to modify the existing cross member?
