an extract from martys datsun 1200 modifications site:

Matthew Cooley tells me that the Datsun 1200 ute was sold as a Roadstar in New Zealand upto about 1988, with an A15 and a 5 speed gearbox.

would be good for rallying purposes

Stirlingmac, they were up to 1988 model year in NZ?

Here's a pic of the Roadstar/Sportstar brochure (one of my favorite pics -- thanks to stirlingmac):

I have got sales brochures and parts manuals for the utes. I will scan up the relevant info for you. I hope CAMS allow you to run a vehicle in a spec that wasn't sold in OZ..Oh by the way they were homogated for International Rallying but they are Group B so that they could run disc brakes..This also allows aerodynamic aids....read big wings

1200rallycar, you're allowed to use any block homologated for the model. That's the only thing CAMS will recognise, but the Group B angle puts a big question mark over it. You'll need to get hold of the relevant homologation papers before approaching CAMS.

Commercial vehicles are not allowed in PRC as far as I know, only in Aussie Car class. So the ute is out.

What a great list of cars...the Sunny pick up is listed there as well in the Grp B list No 256 but surprisingly it is as a 1200cc no mention of the big block! The homologation date was late too, 1/2/1984.
