Age does not weary them,
nor the years condemn.....
it's USAGE, or ABUSE that does it, & useage without oil does it quicker than anything. Excessively wide tyres will diminish service life, but my 185's seem to have had no significant adverse effect.
Is there some suggestion that a high mileage 120Y strreing box [28 years old] will automaticly be in better shape than a lower mileage 1200 box [32 years old] solely on the basis of age? Only the most stupid would say yes.
I have had Datsun 1000 steering boxes that had over 200,000 miles on them, including the one in my sedan, that were / are perfectly servicable. These are the same basic design as the 1200 with several interchangeable parts. There wasn't one that i wasnt able to restore with either a strip, inspect & adjust, or the same thing with a few parts.
That kind of logic [quote below] is what i expect from the mechanicly inept. I had given you credit for being a lot better than that. Durrr
Using the right tools & the right procedure will usually allow you to remove & overhaul any component or subassembly, so keep the cold chisel & half a housebrick in the Mazda toolkit.
