solenoid on your starter moter is stuffed. an old bush mechanics trick is to get a hammer handle and tap the top of the starter(that is the soleinoid) somtimes the solenoid gets stuck, it might work. Another thing is check the electric conections, make sure that there is good contact and that they are resonably clean, also check the wires for any problems. ON BEHALF OF ALL DATSUN FANS; WELCOME!

I hope you have fun there is lots to gain here.
How about giving us a rough idea of where you are from?
eg San Diego, Alice Springs, Lisbon, Panama,
etc.
It often helps to know for those helping you.

Welcome to the site.

The symptoms you describe can be caused by nothing more complex than a bad electrical connection at the battery, so a good start is to ensure that

1. The Battery is fully charged & in good condition. You will feel bad if you overhaul the starter only to discover that the battery is crook.
2. The terminals are clean & the leads are tight.

If this is all OK, then move to the starter as a probable culprit.
