a15 questions... need help

okay need help with my a15 questions.
The local road authorities say that to put an a15 into a 1974 ute, i need to have an engineers certificate, and i can think of better ways to spend $500.

I was thinking of taking my spare a12 block and bolting the a15 head to it after a freshen up and putting the webber on it as well.
Will the a15 head bolt onto an a12 block or will the galleries for water and oil not match up?
Any help out there (thanks 1200rc for the pm's)

The A15 head is a direct replacement on A12's with the altenator on the distributor side. For early A12 engines, you will need to modify the cylinder head a little so that the method of geting oil to the rockers is the same as the early head. No big deal. Just study them & you will see how easy it is.
The coolant galleries should not be a problem.

I suspect that the A15 head has a larger combustion chamber. If that is true, then you will be reducing the compression ratio in the A12.

P.S.
How do the rego Nazi's feel about the A14 in your car. As far as i can tell, the A14 block is dimentionally interchangeable with the A15. That means that you can use ALL of your A15 internals in an A14 block. You know, the one with the legal [?] A14 engine number prefix.

I haven't done this mod (A15 head on an A12) but how would you get on with the head gasket? I presume it would be different (Different bore size). Just a thought
Anyway good luck...........If all else fails get the letter punches out

If i remember rightly, the "replacement" [non genuine] gasket is a "one size fits all" job in relation to the bore size. Check the fitment listing on the packet before laying out cash.
If you pull your A12 head before buying anything, then try to use the original gasket to see if the smaller bore hole will fit around the combustion chamber without going over the edge. If it does not, then choose the A12 gasket, in the event that you have a choice
If you are doing this on an early A12 block, you will need a wad punch of the right size to make a nice neat hole where the little O ring goes for the oil feed to the head. If you need to do this, then the original gasket may be useablle as a template.

unfimilia as i understood in the PMs was considering attempting to make a 1500cc engine from the 1200 block, dodgemans suggestion with the a-14 block is a good idea though

and 1000 dude i was telling you to use the whole motor not just the head ay

Grind the A15 designation off the block and plead ignorance, who is going to know but yourself....it could have been fitted by a previous owner.....
