Probably the same way you'd go about putting any diff in a 1200 that isn't a direct bolt in.

Basically, you'd have to cut off all the old mounts etc that aren't to be used and weld on things suck as spring perch's, brackets and the like depending on what car the diff came out of.

I would suggest a Hilux diff with an LSD centre. A lot of hi-po cars use these with great results as they are very strong and light. You could even strengthen things up a bit by cryo treating and/or shot peening the axles etc should reliability become an issue.

I too thought about the 9 inch, but it kinda defeats the purpose of having a nice light car with a powerful engine when the diff weighs so much.

Feel free to correct me of i'm wrong here!

I agree with Wattage..... a 9 inch is way too heavy!

What about the H190??? What engine are you running??? How much HP do you expect to achieve??

I will jump on the bandwagon. A 9inch isnt required unless you are producing ridiculous amounts of hp. Too big, awkward and heavy.

I recently had a Borg Warner LSD conversion completed on my ute. All hooked up with commodore rear discs and engineered it cost me $3000. I have been guaranteed it will not break.

I agree 9 inch ford diffs are needed on much heavier/ high torque vehicles. A 1200 may get a high torque engine transplant but I don't think it'll ever be heavy enough to justify a 9 inch.

There is a 1200 coupe with a standard ca18det with a 9 inch and manages an easy low 13 down the 1/4

I wouldn't agree the weight is a bad thing. If anything I would think it would help by making front and back more even? and stable

it's all about unsprung weight, or more importantly, the ratio of sprung to unsprung weight. Too heavy a diff (or strut, or wheel / tyre combo) in a light little 1200 will really make for bad handling!
A 9inch in a 1200 is appalingly bad in this regard.
Not such an issue if all you want to do is charge down the 1/4 mile, not break anything, and have any ratio you care to think of available for next to nothing!!

Tell us some more about the car/engine combo (as in stock CA etc.) and fill in your location so we can better answer your question. Also what's the car's intended use?

I guess it does depend on how far you are going with the car. I spent a fair bit of cash on mine because I was sick of blowing diffs/snapping axels.

I would highly recommend the conversion I had done but there are probably cheaper options that are just as good.
