I just bought a new voltage regulator for my nissan 1200 pickup. Do I need to adjust it and if I do how is it done? The brand is: F.D

I Havent installed it yet. I hope they come ready to be installed without any fiddling.

No adjustment is required.

After installing, start the engine and verify voltage output is 13.5 - 14.5 volts (measure with a standard voltmeter).

Thank you man. The reason I ask is because where I bought it from the salesperson told me that I need to take it to an electrician for him to adjust it to the proper voltage. That they don't come preadjusted. I saw in the repair manual that it mentions about adjusting it. This particular unit doesn't have any adjusting screws. Have you used this particular regulator yourself?

Install the regulator, & run the engine for a while & then put a volt meter across the battery terminals. With the engine running at about 1800 to 2000rpm, take a reading.

If the voltage is out of limits, as per the manual, then follow the manuals instructions for a full & proper test. This may involve taking it for a drive to warm up the regulator. Check it again, exactly as the manual says.

Still no good? Take it to a reputable auto electrician for adjustment. The worst thing you can do is to start messing with something that you know nothing about.

What? No manual? GET ONE before you do just about anything else.

All the ones I've ever bought or installed came pre-adjusted. Must be a really cheap brand if they didn't do it at the factory.

This doesn't guarantee it will be right (but most are). The adjustment is possible "in case". Newer electronic regulators have zero adjusability.
