Hey all

I've just begun the semi-rebuild of an A14, (which was mistaken for an A15...but that's another story).

For those who have experience on the race track with A14's - is the stock oil pump up to the challenge? I was considering replacing it for a higher pressure one (if one even exists).

Anyone had an A14 let go on the track due to lack of oil pressure?

My a14 runs at about 50-60psi all day on the track up to 8000rpm with a standard oil pump.
But I also have a baffled sump.
What mods are you doing & what revs are you trying to acheive

If you have good oil pressure around 50-60psi as COUP1200 has mentioned you should be fine. One of the things that can kill the A series in competition is oil temp.
You would be best to check your oil pressure and if thats OK then I would be fitting a good quality oil cooler to ensure long life.
Oil volume is something else you might want to consider, if you want a higher volume pump you can modify your existing one by using L Series internals - see "my photos" for details.

I have never had any problems with Oil pressure on the track.
I do plan to modify the oil pump to achieve more oil volume. I think more volume out-weighs the need for a higher pressure.

This is good news!

My first circuit outings will be on a stock motor, unbaffled sump, and I presume no oil cooler. (except for the oil filter). Only mods will be new gaskets all round, new plugs, points, HT leads.

I will make sure it's a Sandown track day and not the Island.

I will be modifying the engine...but will depend on the results of the first couple of track sessions.

I will investigate sump bafflng as well. I'll also check out this L series 'upgrade' more oil can only be a good thing!

I used to be in NDSOC...have had a year and a half off. I used to drive a Black R32 GTSt.

I was tossing up between NDSOC and NCC? I think it is - Nissan car club.

If you have a schedule of races for NDSOC, and you are able to mail to me I am keen!

My goal is to be able to start racing at the beginning of Jan 06, so I guess I better start joining soon.

Mail or pm details if you don't mind and we can take it from there.

Obviously the offer has been around a while as the $35 is for

Quote:
oin the Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club now for the remainder of 2005 for only $35.00

Quote:
For the 2006 calendar year the revised membership renewal fees will be $65 for singles

Still $65 isn't too bad for the year....
