Hi datsun1200.com this is my first post!

Thanks very much to previous owner Sean from Ozdat who helped my old man and I load it onto the trailer about this time last week.

It's a 1967 model - the very first year the 1000 was made. Was originally blue, but has had a quick blistery red respray sometime in it's life. The blue underneath is still in quite good nick, so I assume whoever painted it did so cos they wanted it to go faster.... The black stuff in the engine bay is POR15 rust preventative coating applied by the previous owner.

It's amazingly rust free, with the only area affected being the bottom section of the drivers front guard - where the guard skin meets the reinforcing. The shell itself, including the sills and inner guard areas are perfect.

It has never been in an accident, but has a fair bit of hail damage and an assortment of dents. That said, all panels are original and line up perfectly (despite what the pics lead you to believe - thanks to loose/absent bolts)

The car came with 2x A12 motors and 4 speed boxes. I plan to rebuild one and use that as the powerplant (?) then register it as a Historic Vehicle thru Sydney Datsun Club.

It also came with a bunch of spare parts!! A second bonnet, 2 speedo clusters, 67 and 68 front guard indicators, eyebrow moulds, tail lenses, spare interior door handles and winders etc. These parts are in near mint condition, so I assume they were collected by a previous owner many years ago.

Apart from the A12, the only mods will be 120Y front disc and MC/booster conversion (which it came with), neatened wiring and whitewalls on 13" 1600 wheels and hubbies.

Will be a slow process, but I'm confident it'll come up very nice

PICS HERE ON PHOTOBUCKET

NOOOOO not another red vb10
please please please paint it a different colour for the respray there are just far to many red vb10's....
oh and dont take out the 2 rear quarter windows or the tailgate window as you can get replacement rubbers for them.
[edit] you already did take out the windows
well id look into taking out that little support in the middle and get one large section made up then get the window rubber stuff that most new cars have and just press the large window in

Don't worry it won't be staying red, I want it to be different!
I'm open to colour suggestions, but am thinking datsun colours persimmon yellow or 831 white (same as my 510 coupe). After seeing the original blue under the window rubbers I'm thinking that could be pretty good too. If not that blue, maybe Holden Police Blue - the colour of my first 1600 back in the early 90s. It's a light blue - same as VIC cop cars were painted in the VK/VL days.

Are you saying the rear quarter window rubbers are or aren't available? Either way, all windows were pulled out by the previous owner - except for the rear screen which is still in.

Hi Chris

That's right Ben - you convinced me

There was a dirty greyish white that came on old vee dub beetles back when they shared many colours with Datsuns. Might give that a go.

The blue you say that is under the window rubbers, is my personal preferance for the paint colour of a 1000 wagon. I bought dad a 1000 wagon for fathers day in this colour and absolutly adore it.

Looks good jeff, hope too see another outstanding build with this one!

Nice looking rig jeff, all the cool kids have a 1600 and a 1000 wagon these days

there are lots of pics of jap spec 1000's on the net that might give you inspiration on colour choice, i'm a fan of the old white and chrome combo myself. Nathan is getting stuck into his 1200 too, thanks for the transport!
