Took the old girl up to Oran Park on sunday for the last ever competitive event to be held there. Was a glorious day, predicted thunderstorms made their way past to the north. On the track there was a record 125 entrants, all keen to have one last crack at a legendary circuit.

The Datto was going well, running in the 1.24's until a mystery left hand turn only miss-fire had me putting it on the trailer after 4 runs. Came third in class behind a mirage cup car and a honda civic, with less than a second covering us all.

Here is a quick video of a lap of the circuit, not the quickest for the day but has a couple of exciting moments in it....

Youtube

I'll miss the interesting features and elevation changes of this track, truly a sad loss for motorsport enthusiasts nationwide.

They're bulldozing it to build a housing estate on it. It was only a few years ago you had to drive for ten minutes past farmland to get to the circuit, now there are houses being built at the end of the main straight.
It's a real shame that there are no plans to build a replacement either, apparently the owner wanted to replicate it somewhere further south of sydney, but the design doesn't meet present day safety standards.

I've actually bent my mirror back on that wall on one occasion a couple of years ago, about the closest you can get without it ending in tears.

it was decided ages ago, I cant see it being replicated anywhere, less affordable motorsports and more big event street circuits with more damage to the cars looks like the future.

Yes indeed, look at that stupid V8 race at homebush, they spent a fortune on that which could have been spent so much better elsewhere. Not one club motorsport competitor i've spoken to supported that race.

yes there isnt much like floating hard over the dogleg the hard on the anchors into the last corner and then pick up the throttle mid apex and tuck the front left over the ripple strip into the grass slightly (aka the john boston race line as i like to call it :p) then a big 4 wheel drift out to the concrete wall and back down the straight. bathurst isnt even like that and i live there lol.
yes rip oran park and i didnt even get to give it a good crack in either of my cars, i only got 1 clean lap in the datto with a low 1.26. and its where the gemini #OOPS# itself on my first drive :p. well i guess theres still v8 supercars 3 lol
its rediculous when you think about it, its 3 race circuits, a kart circuit, a drift track, driver training/corporate/media facility, rally school, 4wd driver centre, skid pan and they are throwing all that extra cash away in favor of a housing estate. not good
