R SPEC TYRES IN THE WET ?

Hi Guys
Going for another adventure at Winton tommorow and need to know the correct prop pitch for a 1200 ?
Have never had much of a go on R spec tyres in the wet and want to know weather (pun intended)to raise or lower tyre pressures?

hey bob, have you competed in every round of the winton sprints this year? how are you doing in the overall results?

ive also been meaning to ask you, have you had a chance to test that rear sway bar on the ute on the track at all?
did it improve things or make it worse? just wondering as im still tinkering with mine a little.

sorry cant help on the rspec wet tyre pressure front, do let us know what you find though!

I think the general idea is to bump the pressures up a bit in the wet, only because they won't get as much heat into them once you get out on the track.

They grip pretty well if you can get some heat into them. I was surpised last time I was at Oran Park and it started flogging down mid session, The tyres were hanging on pretty well until I came up behind a big line of traffic and had to slow down. Then they started sliding around a bit.

I run Yokohama Advan A048's and in the rain I just disconnect the sway bars...............tire pressures help but because we get so little rain it's still a skating ring with the sway bars hooked up.

I'm running Yokohama A048R on the street. No problems with traction in the rain. But then our streets are constantly washed clean and probably not as slippery as the SW streets when they get wet.

I sure hope your not drive as fast....................race track antics on even empty wet streets would probably get you jailed for a couple of weeks :).....................it might also be that mine are shaved for race use.

If you ever drive on wet roads in any town in the mojave desert it's like driving in the snow..............you can always tell who came from rainy climates here.................you can see there out of state "front" plate.

Back on topic, your friendly track side tire guy will be able to help out a lot with what works best locally. Track material, car setup, weight, horsepower, etc all change things radically.

Thanks for the reply guys. The horrible weather did not eventuate. Only a lunch shower which ended up making the track the best I have seen it,two corners stayed wet due to the ground being waterlogged so mucked our times up.Pumping the R specs up seems to be the go Smaller patch on road and helps squegee (doesn't look right does it)out water from under the tyre and also helps warming up the rubber.
Ended up winning U2litre high performance class and about 5th outright so more than happy with myself and the little racecar.

you gonna be hitting any other tracks soon? im planning(hoping) to have my first go at phillip island in dec with the alfa club if my ute is up to the task...
