im buying and building an A15 soon ,as i have organised a block (mike) and i need to know what i must have and what is just for show

do i need roller rockers ,i dont think ill be revving it over 7500 rpm
whats the go with pistons ?? any good cast pistons i should know about??
shot peening ,is it worth it and who in perth does it ?
knife edging ,is it a must or can i just get the crank balanced ?
rings? what brand
bearing ?? what brand ?
head work, what do i need to do to get the most out of a H89 ,but still be ok for down low driving ?
are standard valves ok ,or should i go L series or something (ive heard shortened L series fit)
is there anything else i need to know ,im not sure what comp ratio would be best for the street ,but i have a h89 with 60thou taken of it

any help would be great ,after riding in bens thou ,i have realised what i need to do ,build a sick A series !!!

and if my CA sells then i will have the cash needed to get the block machined up and get bearings and stuff ready

is there any step by step process i should follow ???

Roller rockers aren't necessary, if you're running a cam with wild enough lift you might consider roller tip rockers to ease stresses on that component. Rocker shaft collars are a nice addition over the standard springs that sit in there, they're a little fiddly to install but one bonus is they keep a thin layer of oil on the shaft where the standard springs may let it dribble off.

Pistons well they depend on application> Turbo or screaming Na? I like nice cast ones and my tip is to get the rings at the same time, preferably Chromium over cast iron rings if given the choice. Hastings are a well known company that should have their stuff sorted.

Bearings. Hmm in my opinion it's not much of a muchness really.

Crank should definatley be balanced, don't let your engine builders take the lazy approach and let them say "Aww the crank is already balanced cos it's a 4 cylinder" .....Right, what if the bloody thing is damaged from LFO's last High rpm adventure?

The rest, well I'don't know what to say about the rest besides make sure you get the cam set up right with that much taken off the head or you may be in for some down time to fix stuff.

No you don't NEED roller... but they are pretty and give more lift than stockers
Good cast pistons will do.... Ernie has some he will happily sell you
But check the head and work out your comp ratio first
My rods were linished, shotpeened and balanced... I'd start with that
Applied Automotived in Maddington do ALL my engine machining and balancing work
Forget knife edging... balancing is a must though
And by that I mean everthing.. crank , rods , pistons , clutch, flywheel.. the lot
Rings come with pistons.. CromMoe are good... but take alot longer to wear to the bore and seal well... cast rings are fine for most applications
Bearings... buy ACL
Get your H89 flowed and cleaned up alittle... keep the port sizes sane.. don't hog them out or you lose airspeed and make it a pig down low... especially with sideys... and check your combustion chamber sizes... don't want to run too much comp and have detonation... only ever run on good fuel... don't sook and buy 91... minimum 95 and better yet 98... if you can't afford to fuel it you can't afford to own it... so get over that real fast
I'd go for L series valves cut down and run lash caps... 38mm inlets and 33 or 35mm exhausts... and some GX double springs
That would get you a good little street motor

Not as tough as Bens... but fairly good

And as for Cams... Clive Cams in the east are the way to go
Camshaft Engineering closed... Southsides have all their equiptment... but whether or not they know how to use it is another thing.. .I not heard of anyone getting a cam ground by them yet.
