I have filled my system with Tectaloy 90 plus heavy duty coolant about 6 months ago and after pulling off my thermostat housing yesterday I noticed some minor corrosion building up, Is there a better product to use or is my cars lack of use the problem?

Probably lack of use and crap metal composition on the thermOstat. I had first lot of tectaloy go cloudy after 1 month. Dropped it and used same type and has been fine. Just a weekly start to temp if I haven't driven it keeps it ok

That's from my experience, replace the thermostat while it's out and coroded though. I'm thinking tectaloy have either stoped their standards or chemicals have changed

I use Nulon Red since I found out that many places dont
warranty anything with Tectalloy. Ive used Tectalloy in
previous cars with no dramas but heard several owners
had thermostats issues similar to Micks description.
I only found out about the red when I went to buy some
as recommended by MBenz manuals but fell over backwards
when I found the price and went Nulon Red instead.
Maybe someone with more insight can dime in.

I can't reccomend enough the 'toyota red coolant'.You won't be dissapointed!.Its amazing how many oem products are better than aftermarket ones.

Ive heard good things about the toyota red coolant as well.
but for the budget concious person, the Castrol concentrate in a can is the best cheap option from my experience.

ive used it in a variety of cars and never had a problem. Its not picky about mixture rates (like technaloy) and at about $10 a can, its cheap as, and you can carry a spare in the boot without taking all your space.

Its fitting Toyota followed Mercedes with their own red coolant.
The Germans and Japanese focus on quality, durability etc

Some quality products like the toyota red coolant actually work out to save you more in the long run. Instead of having to later replace corroded radiators, water pumps,thermostats,heater pipes etc...
Better safe than sorry

from your experiences i would say the castrol you mentioned is a quality product even though not expensive.whats the lifespan of that particular coolant?thanks just to get a comparison to other coolants lifespans.

In the past, I have had to drop the radiator coolant before it wears out i spose since i am always tinkering so it never wears out on me, but at $5.00 a can its not expensive to replace.
