External is much better for holding higher boost pressures. But I was under the impression they are eligal for road use

everything is illegal nowadays

external waste gates do hold boost better, you wont get more power just because you've got an external gate. turbosmart is a good quality brand so you can count on it lasting

have you been in a car with a screamer pipe when it comes on boost? its not real discreet especially for street use

yeah they do sound kinda crapy on boost like an exhust leak haha, its only because ive picked up a manifold with a wastegate pipe for it sticking out.. i might just cut n shut it and not run one, i just thought it would help on a T28BB turbo on 10psi

but if you plumb it back into the dump pipe/before the cat will that keep it sounding like a normal car instead of a exhuast leak?

i reckon they sound sweet haha cops dont like much tho

plumbing it back tames the noise a fair bit. if your manifolds got the plumbing for it i'd use one it will save you doing it later when you want more power

Would I have to weld shut the wastegate inside the turbo though,( actuator rod thing ) to have the external wastegate run better/accurate boost readings? Or can I leave my turbo the way it is?

yes you will have to weld the internal gate shut, i reckon its a waste of time fitting the external wastegate to a small turbo with low boost/low power level. But you wont lose power if you do. Here is a link for external turbo housings if you want to go that route
