Which brake master cylinder to buy??

Gudday

I just bought a 1200 ute with an a15 engine.
I have plans to refresh the running gear and am starting with the brakes.
The ute has discs on the front and runs a bendix brake booster with a tandem master cylinder which is very tired.
Through researching this site I found that brake master cylinder jb1117 would be the right replacement for this and ordered one from a online brake retailer.
The brake shop sent me an email back with an image of their catalogue staring that part number jb1178 would be the right part for a drum disc brake setup.
Before I confirm the order I thought I would throw the question out and see if anyone has had this same situation.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Apologies if this has been covered previously, I did a search but couldn't get a solid answer.

1117 and 1178 bolt straight to the firewall and run no booster
1117 is drum all round too

Unless you mean your bendix booster is remote style and boosts just the front brakes

If its firewall mounted and the master bolts to it... no these won't do

What brakes are attached to the struts ?

Pics ?

You ute has non-stock configuration. So we cannot say which master cylinder is right.

Which booster does it have - what are the writing on it?

The size of the master cylinder is usually cast into it. Is it a 13/16?

The booster is bolted to the firewall and the master cylinder has 11/16 stamped onto it.

The caps on the reservoirs on the cylinder have Nabco stamped on them.

The brakes on the struts seem to be a very simple disc setup.

Looks like a Datsun 610/180B power brake setup: M45 booster and 11/16 master.

Verify on the red tag that it is stamped M45

Buy a B310 master cylinder at your local auto parts store.

1600 has a totally different master cylinder.

Thanks for the advice so far.

I checked the tag on the booster and it has 2 different numbers on it.
Both numbers are heavily worn so these codes could be wrong.

The tags says bendix master vac
unit number 2210021
lot number 60? could possibly be something else as the sticker was knackered.

Datto man advised to get the JB1181 master which is a 3/4 setup whilst the one currently on my ute has 11/16 stamped on the master?
Is this going to affect the braking of the car or just the way the pedal feels?

I would really prefer to get the jb1181 as it is a lot cheaper than the jb1117.

Great advice so far guys.

The size difference will not affect the way the pedal feels drastically, it'll probably be a bit heavier & the travel will be a bit shorter. The numbers on the side refer to the internal diameter of the master cylinder, with the one you have now be 11/16's of an inch diameter, & the suggested replacement being 3/4's of an inch. The bigger the number, the more fluid there is in the master cylinder, so for bigger brakes you need bigger master cylinders (on the inside). I've used up to 1 inch master cylinders, I was going to suggest you get the Sunny master cylinder, which is 13/16's, & change you rear wheel cylinders to match. You can get 11/16 & 13/16 rear wheel cylinders, the first for front disc brakes, the second for front drum brakes. If you're doing the master cylinder, it's wise to do the back brakes, too. Be sure to say in a big voice that your ute has a brake booster & disc brakes when you go to the parts shop, because most utes seemed to be unassisted drum brakes, but it sounds like you have it pretty nuch under control. Good luck with the project.
