Great question... it would solve the clearance problem most likely. However, I don't have an answer for you sorry! DE and DET harnesses and CPUs are different though... one reason being the CAS and the coil packs so if your good with wiring and it fits, then you'd be in there.

Edit: I just remembered you're doing carbs so it may be in your best interest to fabricate a mount for a crank sensor stand alone unit like in your link since you won't be using an ECU or much of the stock wiring harness.

Can the cam angle sensor from the det engines work on the DE fwd engines.

You could probably swap to a RWD head either turbo or non... non would have a distributor and the turbo one would have a cam angle sensor for the timing duties.

Jus remembered my distributor is at the back of the engine and i dont want to cut my firewall jus to fit the distributor.

Are they any crankfire systems out there i could use. or could i make my own, since i have seen some crankfire kits on A series datsun1200.com.
