My sugestion of ten grand to run tens, was not nessesarily for a datsun. Iwas thinking more of a V8 with nitros in a light body. Also assuming that you could do all the motor work/engineering yourself. A guy I know had a car that ran 10.6s , and he sold that for less than tenK . Didnt corner like a datto though.

hmmm
An S12 gazelle i've had a little bit to do with just ran a string of 10.1's last outing on slicks. the highest mph was 145 so it's obviously not optimised in the launch department yet!

Weighs 1200 ish kg, it overloaded the chassis dyno at 24psi boost. It was making 520 rwhp up to that point.
It runs 30psi with C16 to get into the low 10's

Featured in this months zoom and performance car magazines

Totally street legal, 0-100 time is 7 seconds ....thats 100mph.....

FJ powered.....naturally....

I totally agree! 10g's wont get you anywhere near as fast as you would hope... But dont be disheartened i've heard of very few people who spend the money all at once! Take your time, one mod at a time and eventually you will see your dreams realized

I'm being as innovative with my budget as possible, and These are average prices...mostly including doing the work yourself.

Lets say:
Engine+turbo: $6000
Paint: $4000
Exhaust $1000
Rubbers door/suspension: $1200
hoses/pipes: $500
shocks springs: $1000
Brakes $1500
Diff: $300
Electricals (relays etc): $500
ECU+ tuning: $2500
interior retrim (inc seats): $2000
Fuel system: $300
Intercooler + hoses: $1000
new glass: $500
new panels: $500
wheels/tires: $2000
1st yr rego/insurance/eng cert: $2000
-------------------
$26,800
cost to maintain GF/wife: $2000
cost on brain for worrying about some d?ck stealing it: $10,000

See...it's REAL easy. I'll say it again..you'll still have only an "ok" car for this kind of money. You need to get "lucky" and find parts on the cheap to get out of it any better. And you need to become better at haggling on prices. Every dollar counts.

Chris

So next time you hear the term " Ground up rebuild"..please be impressed, because it's cost the guy twice as much for a 5% better result.

Here is a formula developed by Chryslers
drag racing program back in the 70s.

( wt\hp)x((mph-100)\400 +1)cube rooted
x5.5 =ET.
This assumes an optimized car and an optimizwd run down the strip. In other words , the shift points, gaering ,engine combination, and drive line components were properly chosen and matched and the car had the perfect amount of tire slip at the start.
Quoted from SA DESIGN How to install and use nitrous oxide injection systems for maximim horsepower.

ps I brought this book prior to seeing The Fast and the Tedious

So depending on how good your algebra is that may be some help

Precisely why I said that was the minimum HP you would need.

His question is actually completely impossible to answer with any amount of accuracy. There are WAY too many other factors to consider, as you suggest.

it doesnt really answer the question because u must factor in the amount of drag the car is going to make, considering the shape and size of the car, there are many things, hp isnt the only consideration.

Check out this website.

Figure a 1900lb curb weight (full tank of gas, 150-200lb driver, full interior 1200). To run a 10.8 @ 125mph, you would need at least 300whp. A 10.2 @ 135mph would require at least 360whp. Does that answer the question?
