Must be the second one, coz 1st gear was supposed to be 3.19. The race boxes are normally quite hard to get off the line with the high 1st gear, however we didn't have a problem because of the low 5.3 final ratio.

For the F4W60L trans there are two ratio sets I know of -
the 3.51, 2.17, 1.37, 1:1
& the 3.19, 2.39, 1.89, 1:1

What are the race ratios?

Nissan did do at least 2 different 4sp close ratio gearsets, one for rally and one for race. The race set had a higher 1st gear but closer gears than the rally set. This I do know because I bought the last gearset that Reg Cook brought into NZ a "few" years back. This gearbox has only done around 300 kms. I used it in my rally car when I had the 1300 with a final ratio of 5.3 and it was awesome except for a lack of top speed (around 165kph @ 8000rpm)
At this stage I am keeping it for possible use in classic rallies but could be tempted to part with it for enough $$$$'s.....

a fellow in south australia by the name of simon pfitzner had some gear sets for a12 4 speeds.i talked to him when i sold him my injection system last year.he might still do something, but i noticed him selling the injection system in december last year.his business was something like pfitzner performance gearboxes.someone from adelaide might be able to confirm the name & a website or memo id. you'll also find that to change the 3rd gear ratio, you'll have to change 1st & 2nd gear.that's due to the way they modify the cluster gear.

I know where there is a close ratio 4 speed freshly built for historic racing but he wants $1800 for it. He offered it to me, but too rich for this little black duck.

you've got a lot more chance of getting a close ratio 5-speed, and it may still suit you, these have a 1:1 fifth gear, therefore all other gears are closer together

can anyone help me with a close ratio 4 speed for my 1200 coupe.I am running the 60 series box and thought it would be easier to find a close ratio box or one that has 3rd gear closer to 2nd. It is set up for speedway and I find it frustrating to have to change diff ratios when I go to different tracks.
