Not in NSW AUS. A14 is as large is allowed. The Utes might get some leeway because they can be deemed a light commercial vehicle.
I agree, an A15 is neat and easy, and quite possibly VERY easy to avoid detection. But you'll know it's not legal... and my conscience wouldnt rest if I did it , and something bad happened.

yeah it's legal ! no eng cert required at all.

1x 180B crossmember
2x 120Y castor arms
2x stanza struts, discs and calipers
and 1x L16 with L18 internals and TRX 5spd.

that all bolts in, no cutting or welding.

100%, daily driven, legal as it gets.

an L16 overbored 2.0mm and fitted with L18 rods, crank and pistons will SEEM like an L16, but will be an L18. the reason for this? an L18 will require engineering, the L16 won't - as it's not over 25% increase in capacity.

L16 definitely requires engineer approval. Anything requiring modifications to fit needs to be engineered - bolt-ins don't (except with the braking system).

No,.. it's only cheating if you do it. Getting caught just ruins your whole day. [for months, even years.]

If you are involved in a prang, even a minor one, your insurance company will wipe you like a dirty ar*e. If you are in the wrong, the other party will need to sue you personally & you will lose. You then most likly will need to pay them their claimed amount, their lawyers fees, & your lawers fees too. Don't forget the court costs on top of that.

Got no money? They can garnishee your wages till the debt is paid. In a worse case scenario, they can sell your assets at auction to recover the debt. In these instances, assets often realise as little as 20 cents on the dollar of what you paid for them. Thats the part that can ruin your whole day for years.

Be smart, be legal.

Hy Jempson.I understand the law problem. In fairness,I would not consider cheating installing an A14 or 15 into a ute, I would be more concerned with the unnecesary problem of registering a car.It is unfair to not allow an A15 into a 1200 , because the A15 is the same version of motor as the A12, only more powerfull. Like replacing a 12A rotary in a Mazda for a 13B, it is about the same, although the 13B is more powerfull, but nothing like installing a 3 rotor 20B into a R/100 that came from factory with a 10A 2 rotor. Here in US, the motor number is of no importance, the car body number is the bible of the car's ID, the engine number is never taken into account. In South America,it is as in Australia, from what you are telling me, because there,if you change your engine(stock or otherwise) you got to notify the authorities, and the new number for the motor will be included in your property certificate (called pink slip in California, and yes, it is pink slip, I do not know why)...her in US, the engine # does not appear in any document.
I would just install an A15 in the car, and use my A12 engine numbers. That sounds oK to me. I understand safety reasons, probably a 1200 with a V12 would be a ticket to the other world, but an A15 in a 1200, it is oK. I do not know , I am not in Australia, but, think about it, A12 or A15 with a slight "relocation" of numbers. I am not advocating disobedience, but common sense.

jaimecidpedro, They identify the engine by the engine numbers, ie: A12XXXX , A14XXXX, etc. They run a check on the engine number to make sure its not stolen or written off, and this tells them what car it came out of originally and its Capacity.

It is easy to fudge these things (restamp engine numbers). I reckon its just as much effort to do things the right way than to cheat the system.
jAMES.

Thats what I'm interested in, it'll have the wow factor with relative ease and a fairly small budget. Of course i'd love a CA or similar but I have to be realistic and I've just blown all my savings on the panel and paint.
