GX heads have:
- Dual valve springs
- Oval ports
- high compression (heart-shaped chambers instead of round chambers)

although id love to own a carby ute i dont and only have owned CA 1200's and know nothing about A series blocks, so i cant help you with the GX question. try doing a search in the photo section and it may come up with some pics to compare yours too.
Are you wanting to get rid of the spares or do you need them for the build up. i do need some interior bit and pieces.

Any L series gearbox tailshaft should fit the stumpy skyline (I am quite sure) I used a Bluebird wagon tailshaft as it has the H165 diff (like the ute) and it fits into a L series gearbox and it's a one piece tailshaft, unlike all other blueys that have a center bearing, with the tailshaft in 2 pieces.

I just had to get it shortneed 33mm and it popped straight in.

Damn I wish I had a 1200 ute :(

Thanks for the info, Henry
The ute is at Dadsons spares at Campbelltown. Ask for Peter Moore. Its a dark silver ute that the front has been wrapped around a telegraph pole.
Most of the spares, apart from the heads are trim stuff, lights, and a really crappy set of seats with no runners
I had a look at my sons skyline tonight and on his ( even though its a six) it looks like the spot where an external waste gate may go, on the engine that is in the ute here it has a tin plate over it near the turbo, like a heat shield so I really cant see what is there.
They sure werent like this when I did my apprentiship with Datsun and 1200 utes were new and cost $2499 including on road and rego
Any ideas about the A15 GX head ( If thats what it is) ?

Which wrecker did you give the ute to so i can have a look. (Sydney Right).
Search www.ozdat.com there are a few tailshafts this week (search driveshaft, prop shaft... all the possible names) but i dont know what will fit.
My old CA18DET ute project had a V8 falcon shaft cut down and modded with comodorre uni's.
And my current ute CA18DE has i believe a STD H165 tailshaft but i have written down in my book when i bought it that the uni joints are 'Same as early holden RUJ1786'-maybe these are stronger than STD???
Dont know much about computers but a few years ago there were only 2 people in Syd that could wire them up, one being a rotor house, called redline rotary in brookvale. this number may have increased by now.
Not sure what your trying to describe but this manifold thingy is or was it where a wastegate was?? And no CA's never came TT.

Also do you have any parts you want to offload??
if so let me know

Cheers Henry

I recently came into possesion of 3 1200 utes and some spares. One is trashed and I gave it to a wreckers. one is an A15 and the other has an Ca18DET in it
The CA18 isnt finished can anyone tell me what Tailshaft goes in it or who in Sydney would make one, The guy said the gearbox is a stumpy Skyline. There is an aftermarket computer that says on it Wolf 3D are these hard to wire up
There is a spare head with the CA18 that has manifolds on it it has a turbo on it but the manifold is split in two and has another inlet that is about 2.5 inches square, the same size as the other turbo inlet. This manifold is cast Iron and has no ID on it Was there such a thing as a DETT
A head came as some of A15 parts, it is new, how do I tell if it is a GX head are there identifying markings on it ?
I would post some photos but being an old bloke know nothing about digital cameras

Thanks
