Depends on the diameter of the donor tube, and the availability of the correct diameter universal joint to fit into the end of the given tube. Depends where you put the engine mounts as to where the gearbox will end up.

Some people get lucky, I expect that the stanza and sunny gearbox yokes are the same? Shorter than stock is easier to modify than longer, which requires a new tube.

im putting a L20b into my sunny with a stanza gearbox and diff. if i provide them with the tail shaft and tell them howmuch to shorten it will it be cheaper than getting one made from scratch or not.

i suppose the question im asking is will they modify it or not ????

They know more about Uni Joints, flanges and tubes than most of us. And it saves them saying something like ..."that's unusable". Many tailshafts don't have serviceable universal joints. If the end of the uni's are "peened in". then it's non-serviceable, look for ones that are held in by circlips

I'm expecting my Uni joint for my CA will cost from $300-$400. It isn't real cheap.

I supplied all of my initial Uni Joint stuff to another place in Greenacre and got it assembled and balanced for 2 cartons of Tooheys Blue, but that was over 10 years ago.

Mazda Bongo, I always crack up hearing that one. I just cant visualise either, Im sure I have seen them putting around before tho.

I have got some good measurements from under the car as you have said, so I might give that a crack first. Some else recommended I go straight to (in this case) Hardy Spicer and tell them what I want.

No more than $50 / tailshaft.

Suzuki Carry are a box on wheels, a little like the Mazda Bongo Vans. I've heard of people putting Suzuki Swift GTi Motors in them. It makes them crack along.

You are better in a lot of cases to just go to the tailshaft place and telling them what flanges and length from diff face to face of the lipseal on gearbox.

Guys,
Just after some background on prices for tailshafts. I am going searching the wreckers tomorrow and dont wanna get ripped off (some people will try anything!). I need a tailshaft that is from (or has a pinion flange that matches) a Suzuki Carry Van. Yeah, I havent heard of or seen one of these either
I am pretty sure thats what diff is in the rally car.
I was trying to track down brake shoes and w/cylinders today and after we matched some pics with the shoes we came up with a Suzuki carry van.
Anyway, I was at one wrecker today and a Mazda tailshaft looked the goods, will go and measure tomorrow, hope its not to expensive. The cut and shut with the 1200 tailshaft will set me back about $300.
