everything in society has price rises and thats the nature of business. Sure i dont like it but i dont like the price of petrol, the price of smokes, the price of beer!!
But we will keep paying for the things we want wont we. I will continue to pay for my plates because i can and because i want them. it personalises my car just that bit more and thats how i like it...
It puts a name on my car that is recognised and known as DATO.
Im not arguing against you, just justifying my reason

I was actually lookin at gettin custom plates 4 my 19th birthday, i first of was thinking about getting something really nice like DAT ZIT or JUZ DAT or somethin along those lines, but realised its goin 2 be a bit expensive. I then thought ok i will settle 4 somethin like. YLD 15A, but then i just noticed the prices of these stupid things. Its a disgrace really, when ur just tryin 2 be a bit diffrent and unique and then u end up payin a ton for it!!. Even 2 get diffrent coloured plates is a rip off. Well there goes that great birthday idea. STUPID RTA!!!

I have a personalised plate for the truck and I own the plate it self, so if I ever sell the truck I can pay about 50 cents and get a normal plate and keep mine, and I dont have to put it on another vehcile or do I have to pay on going fees just to keep the plate. Before I put it on the truck I had it made and it was sitting on my wall for about a year. I feel for you guys and the chargers you have to pay just to have the plate you want.

feel sorry for NIS-15L who is putting in a 1.8litre

Thanks for the sympothy mate when i first started to do my conversion i jump on the web to see what i could change my plate to and was very happy to find NIS-18L avalible then on the next page i found the new pricing structure and thought piss off, I didnt mind paying $180 up front but $100 a year get F#@ked.
So now i have 3 choices bit the bullit and spend the cash which i will be very unlikely seeing im paying almost $1000!!!!!!! as it is because they consider my little 1200 ute a commercial vehical so another $100 is out of the question
2= keep the plate as is and keep explain to people why i have NIS15L when its a 18L every time someone sees the motor.
3= Just go get a plain of the rack Number plate
Either way im screwed
THANKS RTA YOUR TOPS

its it a bullshit rule they have brought in now...
my advise is if you have a personalised plate keep it if you sell the car.

my plate NYS-000 (just reads nice) i got before the new fees were introduced and i am keeping them, will just have to make sure i own nice cars

feel sorry for NIS-15L who is putting in a 1.8litre

The NSW Department of Blood Sucking Parasites now charge an annual fee for any plate that isn't issued off the top of the stack.
They were once like leeches, but even a leech lets go once it has it's fill of blood, but a true parasite latches onto it's host [us] & sucks blood from it forever.
If you want any number plate that needs to be ordered, you will be paying for it forever, & the price will change whenever they like.

They seem to have forgotten thet the true purpose of their existance is to serve the public, instead of the other way around.

RTA, it's the new spelling for parasite.

ive seen ferrari ones in the papar for more than $10k so i would imagine a dato one would be worth a few bob. depends if there are enough dato fan's in the state/region theyre for sale in.

re : number plates

does anyone know if in NSW you can still buy out-right a custom (yellow/black) plate as long as its letter/number combinations are correct eg abc-123. by out-right i mean you dont have to pay recurring yearly fee's like the ridiculous plates you can subscribe to these days. Without paying tooo much, it looks as though you cant get any personalised plate for a once-off fee, apart from the Wallaby Special Edition - which would cost $450 + $50 exchange from current plate. theyre just getting rid of the wallaby ones anyway.. the prices for them were very different back in late 2003.

ref : RTA - NSW - Price List
