It's always time to see John at Pedders! Springs control ride height and it sounds as though one of yours has left it's seat or collapsed. The passenger one could be high or the drivers low. Pull your front wheels and check the spring seats on each strut.

Just a question to anyone who can answer, is it possible for an adjustable shock to lower itself slowly after hitting alot of bumps then a big bump (over a period of say 3 months). Or a spring to pop out or something and change the ride and ride height? I hit a massive bump and since then the driver side sits differently to the passenger side and how it used to sit. It's also rubbing on the slightest of turns depending on where the weight of the motor has shifted. Honestly the wheels only used to ever rub when it was close to full lock and braking or going down hills, now it does it if I just change lanes.... Is it time to see John at Pedders???

I dunno ... sounds to me like Sunny suspension. Remember, he had springs one there that were changed around. Maybe they made the little car ride smoother than normal, and now it's back to 'normal' and he's thinking "Why does this 1000 coupe ride so rough?"

My 1200 sedan "bounces and jumps around" on rough pavement -- and it's worse since adding new shocks, the factory shocks were smoother.

This is normally a symptom of shocks.
If the springs are too stiff, & stock ones never are, you will get a harsh ride, if too soft, you get a mushy ride, but if the back skips around over rough surfaces, then the shocks are likely a bit soft,... in most cases.
As i wrote before, i used KYB gas shocks for a 1200 coupe & i never had a problem.

I rang pedders the springs are $395 off the shelf, 2 inches lower,$110 to fit. John wasnt there and Gavin didnt know if they fitted the 1000.
Does anyone else know?

thanks for the advice dodgeman but the shocks are fine it took three goes to get them right, and the shock bushes are nolex so im pretty sure there cool but at a guesstamation i only get three or four inches travel on my shocks before they bottom out or the rubber "horns" bottom out, and does they guy in penthrith deal with 1000 from what i under stand they are a little different

Before doing anything drastic, just jack up the rear, & disconect a shock at the bottom. Cycle the shock a few times over its full stroke. Once you are sure that ALL the air that might have been trapped has been bled out, then cycle the shock once more. You should have some resistance compressing it, but even more resistance extending it.

If they don't perform as they should, then i don't care what the brand is, or what the reputation is, stuffed shocks are stuffed shocks & if this is the case, then replacements are in order.
I think that 1200 coupe shocks have a slightly longer stroke, but fit & work anyway. This is what i was using in my 1k sedan for about 20 years. The shocks that i used were KYB Gas ones, & along with new bushes & slider blocks in the speings, this was all it needed for an acceptably good ride & good street handling. Mind you, all i had in front was an improved 1200GX engine with dogleg 5 speed, not a big output power plant by any stretch of the imagination.

The best way to get rid of this problem forever is to give John Taylor at Pedders Penrith NSW a call and purchase a pair of his tricky rear springs for a 1200...you'll never have to deal with this issue again. His # is 02 4731 2444. Tell him Craig sent you.
They are the best springs...they will set the car at the perfect ride height, eliminate axle tramp and you wont have to think about a rear sway bar or panhard rod. He has been dealing with 1200's for 30 years....

hey
my 1000 coupe has flipped leaf springs, when i say that i mean it has had the bottom (smallest) leaf removed and placed on top of the stack of leaves bending against them. after compressing it down to "flip" it and putting it all back together my cars ride hight was perfect BUT now the back end bounces a jumps around terribly over bumps and man holes in the road, i have monroe GT gas shocks but that doesnt seem to help at all, if any one else has done this or knows of another way of doing it please let me know coz this is getting quite annoyng
