How did that work? That would usually cause a bunch-o-pollution on a carbureted car.

Anyways, since it shuts off so clean, I would say there is a 99% chance it is a wiring or ignition problem. I wouldn't look at jets or any other mechanical parts. One common problem is where the points wire goes through the distributor body. These sometimes get loose and stop running intermittently.

Dunno if this helps, but the late model B210 had a wire run to the speedo that killed the ign on decelleration until the speed was under 10km's per hour.

Put a multimeter on the coil and see if it is ign that is killing the engine, work backwards from there. From your first post it sounds like a fuel problem though. Sounds like it is overfuelling to me, needle and seat??? Watch the sight glass while idling, it should tell you. As you drive around it is probably using enough fuel to offset the leak. . .

Maybe.

Its like jou turn it off with a key, no splutter nothing just dies. If your reflexes are fast enough and throttle her a bit just before she dies you might have a chance of keeping her alive. Only need to stomp the throttle for a few seconds and if you get to keep her alive she idles fine until the next seizure kicks in

If i can't get her fixed by tonight i'll drop her off at the mechanics tomorrow and let them worry about it.

ps. Had the carb reconditioned when i bought her, about a month and a couple of weeks ago, so maybe they made a tossup of it

Tell us about the symptems a bit more.. does it kinda choke a bit and then die? or does it just turn off like u turned it off with the key? i'd be checkin the timing, it should be ok... umm if its not the timing have a look at ur jets in ur carb..
some one else here can shed some more light on it.

The fuel level of the carb stays the same through the idle proccess, i've also checked the altenator and its giving enough juice aswell .

Hi, I'm new to the forum and recently became a 82 datsun 1400 pickup owner and lov'n it.

I'm having a few problems with my pickup and hope you guys can help. any suggestions are welcome.

The pickup starts first time no prob but if i let her idle for a minute or 2 it just suddenly cuts out If i try to start the motor again it struggles a bit but within seconds she's idle again....well only for a minute or 2.

Does anybody know what the problem might be.

Thanks in advance
