ok, well maybe I was exaggerating a little..
but the truth is that we are building cars that handle better, stop better, are more economical and output less emissions than most new cars 99% of the time. it is unfortunate that we are lumbered with the ICV moniker whereas the hotrod guys have such an easier, defined path. what we need is an astute body to lobby the powers that be and introduce some more pertainent guidelines as was done for the hotrod guys.
and I will back part of my original statement with the living example of the street legal merlin engined rod built by rod hadfield.
Exadurate a little? The comment was a total fabrication. The Merlin powered '55 Chevy was not, is not, & never will be,... a Hot Rod.
It may well be a Street Machine, just like our Datsuns, but never a Hot Rod.
The kit cars are categorised as ICV's, in NSW at least, because they are all new conctructions, while most Street Rods are based on an existing car, which makes most of them MPV's [Modified Production Vehicles]
Street rodders have had to fight the registration nazis every step of the way since the late 60's. This i know as i was involved in these earliest negotiations. We thought that we were going to be legislated right off the road.
If you think that Street Rodders have it easy, then just try building one. All of the same regulations apply.
