In theory it shouldn't matter. It may have been done to reduce lumpy Idle from a cam. So that the vaccuum signal gets less corrupted by exuast overlap at low revs. (Probably more prevaliant with webbers/deloertos, as they have four individual throats/intake runners)

I just received an SU manifold and I found that the balance tube has been welded shut. Anyone have experience running SU carbs with and without the balance tube and can tell me how it affects performance? Or anyone know what difference it'll make? Thanks - Michael
