CA18-DE has 97kW @6400rpm and 162Nm @ 5200rpm they came out RWD from silvias 1988 onwards. FWD in late model EXAs.

CA18-DET has 130kW @ 6400rpm and 225Nm @4000rpm they came out RWD from 89-91 180sx and silvia turbos (inc intercooler). 87-88 Gazelle (no intercooler). FWD from 88 Auster 1800Xtt (no intercooler) and 4WD in 87-88 U12 SSS Bluebird. However the 87-88 models had 108kW @ 6400rpm and 201Nm @ 4000rpm.

remember these figures are for standard engines straight out of the Nissan factory.

a old old old friend of mine had 155hp at the engine (125 std) from a CA18DE with mild cams, a mild exhaust and a pod filter with cold air feed (the computer was re-mapped by Glen Campbell).

the CA18DET std has about 175hp from memory...

try getting that out of an A14!!!

don't use the std box in the conversion - and to my knowledge no-one ever has. it seriously won't handle the power. it'd be like putting a std 4L60E auto behind a fully worked LS1 - you're running on borrowed time.

I knew a guy who did an auto swap so he "didn't have to take his hands off the wheel", I kid you not. . .

A N/A CA18 has how much power compared to a bombed A-series?

If you can't have fun with 50HP you won't have fun with 500.

CA18DETs also came with autos but I don't know why anyone would want that combo.

the engine is out of the S13 nissan silvias.

it's a CA18, and available in DE (twin cam EFI N/A) or DET (twin cam EFI turbo).

the engine combos available are

CA18DE + auto
CA18DE + 5spd manual
CA18DET + 5spd manual

if you use the gearbox with the CA you won't need any adaptors - not that the A series box could take the punishment anyways!

Its not that hard to do, all you need is some expirence with working on cars.
Over here in Aus we are lucky that we have people who make engine and gearbox mounts as a kit, so all you have to do is bolt the mounts in, easy!
CA18 has the same gearbox pattern as early model skylines, 'stumpy' skyline box they are strong and relitivly easy to find(over here anyway).
The only real difficult thing about the whole conversion is wiring up the loom and all the wiring needed for the upgrade.
It all depends on how much 'coin' you wish to spend aswell!!!
CA18DET is out of a 180SX, we get containers and containers of them in Aus, it costs $1200AUS for a CA.

Ask anyone who owns one with the conversion, They are AWESOME!!!!
well worth the effort!!
