Check the flow out of the water pump by filling up a 1 litre bottle. An engine rebuilder will give you the exact procudure on how to & how long it should take to pump a litre. It will also tell you if the water is cavitating

Hey Shaun,
just a couple of thoughts .......
New Gemini radiator is fine, but probably good for up to 2 litres n/a. You are running a turbo motor so you probably need more fin area to allow heat exchange to take place.
Intercooler - hmm, not being a turbo dude it may seem more important to me to have the engine temp sorted first then worry about performance gains due to cooler inlet air. Also, if the gemini radiator can only just cope with the new motor, covering it up with an intercooler will greatly redice the amount of fresh air available - and only air movement across the fins will draw the heat from the system.
Remove the intecooler (if practical) and go for a drive ... I think you will then find an improvement in cooling
Cheers
P.S. Have a look at factory set ups - ie BA turbo. Small intercooler but big cooling system . Massive truck intercoolers are most suited to trucks because of turbo size, litres fed and the fact that most of the work is done at relatively slow airflow speeds.
Just a thought from a non - turbo novice

yeah im having troubles it sit between 220 and 230 but doesnt go any higher so
anyway i havent got anyroom for twins on my radiator either because of the water pump and i cant have a thermo on the outside because of the intercooler so im not to sure what to do wheather to just keep taking it easy or look into moving the intercooler down or something like that

shaun same thing in my coupe, overbored engine, gemini radiator,12" thermo on a daviescraig switch. my engine warms up from nominal to hot way too easily, and doesnt cool easily - im considering a largeR radiator with twin (factory) fans. i dont have room on the gemini radiator to put another fan (unless i have 1 pulling, 1 pushing).

sidetopic : cheq out these digital fan controllers, 100$US & 20$US sender unit

dakota digital sells lots of digital guages..

stupid suggestion..but here goes..

You did check that the heater was on hot when you filled it up? No airlocks in water galleries?

2 radiators can look identical, and can behave totally differently.

Definitely got me stuffed, given the symptoms.

Chris

Yeah bored out motors run hotter and need better cooling but not that much hotter and not that small of an over bore. 80-120thou before you start having problems.

ok guys ive been told the fan is going right way round but im not 2 sure now i think about it i dont really now much about them
my fan seems to be blowing hot air out of the back of it so is it going the right way
also could the motor be just running hot because its been bored out, is it normal for bored out motors to run hot or not???

wow, that is hot! especially under those driving conditios you describe. i've just had similar problems with my wagon, i found i just needed another fan. my entire radiator is covered by a thick intercooler so that shouldn't make it get as high as you say.

basically i would have said to do all the things you have already done... it looks a little serious now how does your oil look? definately check your fan is going the right way, but if you have a 72 degree thermostat, when driving along there is enough airflow to keep it at a max of 80, without a fan altogether! is there a lot of space between you cooler and radiator? what about heat shielding from your turbo?

i doubt it would be that i just installed a autometre water temp gauge
Quote:
is it a huge overbore

from what the bloke told me i think he said its been bored out 40 thou or 60 thou with 1.5mm oversized pistons i think
