Mate, seriously, if you're fitting a 9 second rotary motor I doubt a cage is going to what attracts the wallopers attention!
No offence, but you might want to give this a bit more thought. Hit someone in a car that isn't engineered and you will be paying off the bill for the rest of your life.
Please don't take this the wrong way, just trying to give you another point of view.
Matty

Is that common in Oz? Never got stopped for my cage here in the states...

the police idea of a modified car in OZ are chrome look hubcaps, personal numberplates, dashmats, pine tree air fresheners and a few "magic happens" stickers.

even then if you get a wanker cop pull you over he'll get you for "aftermarket hubcaps",

trust me...

a cage in a car on a public street is asking for a bite as is fishing for white pointers off Capetoun with half a tuna as bait...

Wouldn't you consider a cage anyway? Is your life important to you? What if you crash at speed?..........Just food for thought.

You didn't make up the word.

weighty
adjective: Having considerable weight; heavy.

Yes Wayne strengthening the body from under the car like chassis rails ect can be done and is a good option if ya dont wont the po po pulling you over every time they see your cage, but its not as strong as a cage and is quite expensive and weighty (I just made up that word)

yeah anything running sub 11sec 1/4 miles need to be caged as the raceway will say go home and don't come back without a cage and they won't let you race without one. I got that off a discussion on the cruising brisbane forums

Cheers
