Does it run okay?
Don't get too hung up on the Icing thing. If it's not doing anything undesireable, don't worry about it.
If it's that big a deal, move the carb closer to the turbo. That'll heat 'er up.

Yes you can make a manifold from steel if you like. Aluminium is probably a better choice though.
Fuel injection manifolds don't really ice up. (Except for very rare cryogenicly cooled intercooler set ups for forced induction) This is because, as I said earlier, the cooling is generated by the EVAPORTION of the fuel. As most fuel injection set ups inject the fuel directly into the intake port of the head, (well as close as you can get) the main body of the manifold is not exposed to the heat loss.

OK these Steel Efi manifolds i see on some ASeries on this Site, do these have a Problem with Icing also....or is the problem only when using carbs???

Get an extra long cable, with the sheath around it then fix the sheath a couple of inches away from where you want the end to be . should work fine.

20 years ago I had an LJ80 that used to ice up so bad it would stop. someone said to spray hairspray onto the offending part.(when it was cold, not when it was iced up).

I dont remember if it worked or not.

This is caused by the evaporation of the fuel. As any liquid evaporates, the side effect is cooling. (This is the principle on which refrigerators work)
I can't speak for SU's, but on some non crossflow engines, the loss of the hotbox, i,e from the addition of tube headers, can cause a flat spot. That is when there is no heating to the inlet manifold, the engine develops a nasty stumble, just off idle. Six cylinder chrysler valiants are a bastard for this. And it's a real pain in the jacksie. You go to make a right turn, , with not much of a gap in traffic, boot it, and it just goes BUHHH......vroom. Buy which time the small gap has gotten quite small indeed.

Anyway, I'm assuming your car doesn't see a lot of road use. And at any rate, I can't speak with any authority with reguards to if an SU will suffer from the dilema.

I have jus built a Suck tru setup for my A12 using Using a 1 3/4" Su. The Pipe that connects the Su to the rubber hose infront the turbo is Icing really bad....but the rest of the piping forming the inlet manifold is ok.

Wats the effects of this???

Im using a T2 turbo witha .48 inlet a/r (same turbo that was on my pinto turbo)

Will try to get some pics soon
