Im useing an adj malpassi fuel pressure regulator with inbuilt filter, came off an alfa with twin dellortos. I think they are standard items on these cars.

Reliable sources have already said it will be fine but also think of it this way. If your engine were to used as much fuel as the stock fuel pump could pump there is something radiacally wrong. If it were the case your tank would be empty in minutes.

In saying this I had a stock pump that was a little sick and it started leaning out up high. Bought a brand new one for $50 and I know it pumps heaps. Forgot to put the floats back in the carbs lol

I run a low pressure high volume electric...... but it was already there so I went with it

I have 2 cars with 40 mm sidedraughts one mechanical and one electric. No difference.
However I would suggest spending $50 on getting a pressure regulator (passive inline one after the pump) and set it to 1.5 psi.
That is plenty of pressure for carbs and does not affect flow/volume.
Oh the only difference is that with them both being race cars, they can sit for a week or two after an event and the electric one takes one maybe 2 tries to start wheras the mechanical pump car takes maybe 8 starts before its able to fill the carbs and get the car to start. It also has low voltage points as well which could contribute to that.

I'll third that. I've been involved in building/tuning a couple of strong turbo A series with the standard mechanical fuel pump!

I'm with B110SSS... your mechanical pump will be fine. I changed over to an electrical one a while ago and am considering swapping back. Electric ones can be a bit noisy as well.

Hi Rhys,
I have run a standard mechanical pump for years on the SSS with 2 x 40mm sidedraughts. ( A14)
On both the dyno and portable gas analyiser it shows no sign at leaning out at high rpm so to answer your question I would say as long as the pump is working fine you should have no problems.

Afternoon,

As some of you may of gathered i'm building an A15, for mainly street use but with the occasional drag/motokhana event.

My questions is at what point do i need an electric fuel pump and regulator? I'll be running 40mm Webers, GX head with Dual valve springs, L series valves etc.

Is the standard mechanical pump up for the job (me thinks no) or do i go for a low pressure pump and reg?
