from research i think youll find that the rta in nsw may be altering their rules since july 11 changes with engine conversions.... some obvious vechile omissions off the banned list for p1 and p2 drivers has made a loop hole for hi po 4cyl cars (non turbo) and also vehicles with engine conversions...

wa, sa, qld and tas are easy for engniers (sa especially), and wa are lucky cause they can drive yanky imports 15yrs or older, not 30yrs or older like the rest of australia. My knight rider fantasy must wait another 12 yrs...

whats that kit, look out for those boxes, and the ramp behind them...

That is great to know, surely you have some stories to tell, I remember doing the Fairlady was a PITA, probably more work in a 1200....Can't comment on QLD red tape, not sure what rules you guys have to comply with, I am pretty sure most states have different rules, for example, 15 yo Jap imports you can register without compliance in TAS, and WA, andl also WA is a lot easier with American muscle cars, i.e. LHD models.

Still, I would love to hear from anyone who got one engineered recently in NSW, what engineer they used.....

my datto ute is one of the rare sr20det 1200 utes running around QLD. The main modifications for the engineers report are the brakes, suspension and drivetrain. u will need to do a brake test with excellent results.. it is easier to just put in a ca. save urself all the stuffing around.

That makes two of us, you just need to go to the WSID, and have a look at some so called "street registered" cars.

Anyways, could someone with the 1200 wagon, let me know what their rego papers say re weight please ? Does anyone know the exact CC displacement of the SR20DET ?Also if someone has an engineer that will pass it, please let me know, you can PM me if you like.

I am confused

If Sr20DET's are not allowed based on the weight of the car how come there are SR20DET powered 1200's like the one Prodat has posted pics of. That ute is currently being registered in the A.C.T and I assume it must be engineered in the A.C.T also.

i know the heaviest of the body styles was the
station wagon,which was something close to 800 kgs.somewhere here will know,so this might be the go.you could always consider a
ca18det,which is under the weight break,& is
smaller than the sr20.lots of people have done them,i know but it just depends if you want to be a bit different,or don't mind doing something similar to other people,& be able to ask for advice if anything goes wrong.

Yes, that might be an option as well, since I got all of the original paperwork, logbooks,etc.....Maybe upgrade the front brakes, and put some sort of twin carby/cam on the motor....Choices,choices....
