valve clearance for my cam sugests either .012" ex and .01" in for tighe cam profile no. 154 or .014" ex and .014" in for tighe cam profile no. 140. not sure which one mine is but im sure i could find out.

motor is now running, replaced sump gaskit, timing cover gaskit and an engine mount. needs to be tuned yet but runs very well, but there seems to be a milky substance colecting on the oil cap, may be water leaking from the timing cover, but is definitly not the head gaskit, as it is new

all i need now is a turbo

Set the valve clearance to whatever your cam vendor suggests (it varies by cam).

For stock cams, set the clearance to 0.013 inch COLD. See Tune-Up Information.

cheers gonzal, that really helped, i didnt know about those marks before hand. that degree wheel was no use to me.

should only need a timing cover gaskit set and it should fire up

should i reset the gap in the rockers, what is the actual clearance that i should set it to?

That's probably the cause of the problem.

The most important thing is that the marks on the crank gear and cam gear line up with the marks on the chain. It has to be perfect.

I don't know if you can check without taking the chain off. There are match marks on the chain, but I think they get out of line as soon as you turn the engine.

You might try a straightedge along the center of cam gear and crank gear. There are marks to line up that way too. If you can see it is off "by a little" -- there's your problem.

One reason for the compression test is to see if the valve train is seating properly.and ata the right time . it helps to know theses figures.

ive cheaked the valve timing and ive positioned the cam where it shud be when the crank is at t.d.c and it is out by a few degrees. i purchased a cam dial thing which was a bit steep for $50 for a circle peice of metal, but i guess it helps to have one

compression test will have to wait, but i will check it. my compression shud be low as i have a a14 head on an a12

oh and can somebody plz tell me how to upload pics, i wouldnt mind showing everyone what ive done so far but i dont no how to

If it turns over at a regular speed, you don't need a faster starter ... unless your cam vendor says so.

I'll second the compression test. Your cam vendor should be able to tell you what compression to expect; with a stock A12 or A14 it should be around 150 psi.

Double-check the timing. You might need to pull the front cover and check the alignment marks on the two gears.

I would check the valve timming first, it wouldn't hurt to run a compression check to see what is going on.

my motor is back in one peice but it wont run. the timing seems to be correct and it fires. ive pumped plenty of fuel into it when turning it over but it wont run.

the cam that i have put in may need a faster geared starter motor but i cannot get one. has anybody else needed a better starter motor once instaling a new cam?

if this is not the problem then the cam timing would be out?

any sugestions
