we got a pretty good neighborhood... except when the neighbours decide to START a party at 2am... I mean, we can put up with it when he parties till like 12 and be reasonable about it, but hey...

We always used to crank the motorbikes up at our place every saturday arvo, along with old cars and all the rest of it... the only time we got a complaint was when the neighbors wife was really sick, and he very politely asked if we could not ride the bikes for a week or two. (i think she passed away a week later) Got units just up the road with lots of oldies and they never said anything either...

hope this doesn't start a migration of datto freaks to my place to work on cars every weekend

Have a lady across the road who always whinged about my angle grinder. One storm a tree fell on the clothesline. I ran across with the trusty angle grinder and chopped the clothesline up for her. "gee that works well, I can see why you use it all the time. . .". The sun now shines out of our (3 car freaks) behinds!

It really caught her off guard, I even got given $50 a week later, go figure.

I suppose this is like the old saying "you can't keep everyone happy all of the time".
When I encounter people like this I like to use the old...... "I totally agree with you...... Now F%&k Off!" - It really puts people off balance.

The answer is, sadly, no. We can't all just get along.

You do have to watch yourself, 'cause some of these guys (and gals) should be restrained in padded cells.

Sadly, for lack of public mental health care, these people are allowed to mingle with normal folk and often pose as churchgoers, politicians or police.

Pepper, be careful of these type of nutters. I had one living next to me & he would come in our yard & cut our trees a metre inside the fence line. My wife wanted to rip him a new one but I said he was dangerous. After we sold out, he threatened to kill the new neighbours kids for making too much noise. The best bet is just to say, "sure mate, I'll be much quieter from now on" & then just ignore him. It worked for me.

but this guy!!!! i have nightmares of this dude

Hahaa, maybe thats your key to the problem.
You should tell him you have dreams about him and give him a few winks. When you see him in the street, wink and say hi. Bet that fixes him

im not the kind to just sit in the driveway and rev the engine just to make sure it still works....
im tryin to get these carbys right, but really he doesent need to walk over to my house, down my driveway and into my garage at 12midday on a sunday to tell me that my car really pi55es him off.
as i said before i work 6 days a week and sunday is the only day i have to catch up on my ute..
it just seems that when i have my car on for 5 minutes( and it can be sitting there idling-i dont have to be revving it) he has to display his king of the neighborhood routine.
he's lucky i dont own a rotor or a v8 or a 2stroke dirtbike.
im all for respect and whatever, but this guy!!!! i have nightmares of this dude

There is always one whinger neighbor

Pepper it sounds like your other neighbour's struck out and got 2 nah jokes.

Over the years there has been plenty of noise come out of my place, compressors running on and off allday, my brother and his band practising, reving the #### out of our cars when we knew no better. Only ever had one complaint and that day I tried to limit the noise. Never had anymore complaints. But if they did complain, I would respect their wishes best I could.

Having said all that. I have one neighbour behind me who has just got his first car, a Fiat 131 and he is always reving the #### out of it. Honestly I can handle the noise but the thought of his engine is what annoys me.
You say your neighbour used to do up cars in his driveway and it also sounds like you are always reving your car.
I wonder if he is complaining about the actual noise or like me, its the thought of the poor engine that is annoying him the most.
What are you doing when you are reving your engine? My neighbour is really just reving his while his head is under the bonnet, doing nothing.
I understand trying to clean out a carbie by placing your hand over it and giving the engine a rev or 2. But not much else is gained buy reving the crap out of the poor engine. Engines simply just dont like it.

Not trying to say you in the wrong here mate.
Just curious as to what it is you are doing.
If you simply just in and out the driveway many times a day, I think the guy is just a whinger like you describe.
