I have a feeling it has to do with the somewhat open position they sit at on the car, carbies have always presented problems when reciving constant direct amounts of air. Aircraft designers over came this way back by changing the angle at which the trumpets sit.

It's something like that anyway

I was a bit startled to see that my post had been bumped and/or revived. I guess an update is in order. Last christmas I installed a set of SU carbs on a GX manifold. It really changed the way the car drove. More torque, more horsepower, more fun! There are pictures of the SU setup somewhere on the internot but I'll be damned if this Luddite knows how to get you to them. As for a video of it running, good idea. See the above comment about me being a Luddite to understand why there isn't such a thing at this point in time. Oh, I almost forgot that I changed to a full windshield last September as well. That hurt my top speed somewhat but made it much more comfortable to drive. The wind doesn't whip into my ears as bad. I can comfortably cruise at 90 miles per hour (130 kph?). As for the Locost book, there is a better book out there but I don't remember the title. Check out the various Locost specific websites, they'll know the title. The Ron Champion book (Build Your Own Sportscar...) is a bit sketchy on a whole bunch of the process. He does show you how to build a frame though, I'll give him that.

Damn that looks good in black. I love these things , they are as basic as a car can get except maybe a T bucket but are such a great piece of machinery for sheer driving pleasure. It makes me want to dig out my Locost book and start welding !!

The A engine modified is powerfull and fun. No need for an Sr20....I love the A engine and modified it is excellent. Furthermore, that car is so light to the point that the A engine must realy feel twice as powerfull

I would like to hear that engine purr.

Dimlight....if you read this....any links to a running engine???

Sr20 are heavier than a ca18 by a hefty amount. The A is halve the weight.
SR20 are overrated.

Only one thing I'd change... Those fuel filters have rubbed me wrong ever since a friend's 1962 409 Impala burned practically to the ground as a result of one. Came to find out, they're a pretty common problem, and yours is right over the exhaust. Just a thought....

Looks unbelieveable otherwise!

I always thought a FWD SR20 would be good as well.

Why not two?

Just tube frame the 1200 and put a FWD SR in the front and one in the back? Twice the HP and AWD?
