Well it runs.

Heaps more bottom end, even relatively untuned (using my R31 turbo map).

Sounds wicked with no air filter too.

Im (was) currently running a 32/36 weber downdraft carb on my Mazda 1600cc 808 but this last week been setting up efi.

Got my EA CFI TB today from the wreckers for $15 ($15 carby day at pickapart) and is now fitted (required drilling 4 new holes) to my weber adaptor plate.

The car is currently running Megasquirt ignition only. If things go to plan tommorrow it might be going (cross fingers).

Ideally I would make a new adaptor plate from a block of alu but if you have a weber adaptor it is an easy fit.

Currently trying to talk wolfey into doing similar thing with his 1200...

Yeah I had a look at the megasquirt and it looks like a decent cheap option but I have 3 Link ECU's so I'm sweet for the moment

If you are looking at DIY check out the VEMS unit it's more expensive than the Megasquirt but it's a better design.VEMS SITE

This will go for about NZ$600 I'd guess
2nd Hand Link ECU
They sell brand new for NZ$970 New Link ECU

Here's the new Link ECU XLEM that I'm thinking of upgrading to.... when I find out what the extra $1100 is buying me.

I recommend to steer clear of old screw type Microtech. Nothing like bumps retuning the engine for you.

Good call 120fly a factory ECU isn't the way to go...

I'm a Computer engineer and part time electronics geek and I thought about dicking around with a factory ECU then decidied against it just because the tuning was going to be a PIA.

I've seen a coupla of factory ECU grafts and both used as much factory wiring as poss, all factory sensors and the factory tuning.

If any of you guys are thinking of going EFI do yourself a favor and spend the coin and get an aftermarket tuneable ECU.

I use a locally made Link ECU to run fuel only is 7 wires, to run fully adjusable spark is another 3 last one I got for NZ$600
$900 for tuning must hurt!
I set mine up on the road using a wideband O2 and a Gtech then it's just a coupla runs on the dyno to smooth out the power curve.

120fly: Nope, way more complicated than winding 2 wires together and sticking them to the coil. The Dizzy probably controls the timing optically or magneticly so it would need an ignitor to fire the coil, then there's dwell to take in to account as well. some older dizzys control this with the disk/wheel but most do it in the ECU/Igniton module.
FYI an Ignitor is just like a relay, the computer fires the ignitor the ignitor fires the coil (some control dwell). This way the computer doesn't have to flow the coil current.

You have a really good point about going MPI insted of TBI(CFI) and I agree completly. If anyone is injecting their Toy car the TBI will restrict power so it will end up coming off and being replaced with MPI.
My reasons for going down this path is that this is just my daily driver and I'm only aiming for 100ish HP out of my esky, with the turbo and injection which should be easy. It looks like the CFI will be a close fit to my webber manifold.
I have 2 programmable ECU's to choose from, fuel pump, FPR etc so all I need is some EFI hose.

It suks when you loose 20mins of posting so just before I hit post I select all the txt and copy it. This way if it does bomb I can just paste it back in

Ok with some more study ive found that in
the ford computer can only be tuned by ford the board uses a bios type system and ford only have settng avilable for them which are near impossible to get .the delco 808 can be wired up to the tbi injetion or mpfi systems.kalmaker sel the tuning program for the delco this is an expensive way to go .....for a cheep fuel only computer id suggest using some of the early microtech screw type computers the were set up to run two or three injector
some of them will handle turbo apps .with an option of being able to disable injectors too ,Or has anyone here tried the mega squirt system basically a computer you build yourself some of the people on the ford forums are using them but seem to spend a fair bit of time tuning it to get it to run which id say you would have to any way ..If we got a few going people could send there tune settings to each other and compare notes ...another thing talked about on the ford forum was the performace between the two types of injection was the mpfi had more torque down low and was better on a cold stars then the tbi and about 10 hp increase .............Try DIYAutoTune.com they are selling the megasquirt systems already assembled they seem fairly priced with a good site full of info on the megasquirt systems...........
