I sold this ute to Go_The_Datto over a year ago but the window was already in it when I bought it as an unfinished CA18 project. It was originally done by a guy called Andrew in Echuca. I spoke to him a couple of times and believe he modified the mechanism from an old HQ-HZ Holden station wagon tailgate. It was wired up and I got it going up and down by touching the wires directly to a battery but the whole thing needed a little finishing off. Essentially a channel was fitted around the original window frame, some box tubing added with some rails and I bought some felt type pinch weld to go in the channel to hold the window in place and stop it leaking. I never sprayed it with water so not sure how water tight it was, but window sat in the tray behind a false wall (rather than inside the cab like the Pimp my ride S10 pickup) so it probably just needed a drainage hole in the tray and plenty of body deadner to seal it all up. Although it wouldn't see too much water on a normal rainy day anyway as it sits an inch or so inside the roof line. It was a cool idea but I wasn't sure what an engineer would think of it, whether you would end up with wind swirling at the back of your head if you were driving with it down and whether it was really worthwhile
for anything other than novelty value....must admit I never thought of installing a pool table in the tray to get the full advantage of it though.
Hopefully go_the_datto will update us on the progress soon.

The panel is on the outside so the drains around the base of the window can be easily drained outside of the cabin.

That's the key to the install.

Just make a channel like the door windows and use the same kind of seal.
Dont know how often Go_the_datto visits.

I wonder how he got the window to seal up and wether it is watertight. That is my only worry, I dont want the bloody thing to leak!!!!!

The originator of the twin turbo A12 - Go_the_datto has pics of him making the same style window in his 1200 ute. ( if www.datsun1200.com stays working long enough for me, I will link a pic)

That episode of pimp my ride I thought was ####. I only liked that window. All the cars came out crap. They were quality but looked crap. Strange from a shop that started out with hot stuff. I honestly loved all the cars before they were touched. Just give them nice and fresh engines and they would be hot to drive.

Ahhh, I think that this was once called a 'partition' when it was used to separate m'lady from the Chauffeur in Limousines and Towncars.

No. I limo window is an electronic operbale window that can be put down and up.

I think it would look cool on a Datto ute and might allow some fresh air in on those hot summer days.

This show is gonna give me to many ideas this is gettin dangerous!!!!!..

Hey has anyone seen a ute with airbags??

OK, I didn't see the show and i wanna know, what's a Limo window?
Is that where they take out the rear window and replace it with sheet metal that has a much smaller rear window in it, about the size of the rear windows that you see in 1920's era cars. The limo's I have seen like this are usually black, or have a vinyl roof.

That sounds like a class act, yeah, right.
